When a dragon snatches the youngest of seven talented Chinese sisters, the other six come to her rescue. This is a beautifully illustrated retelling of a Chinese folktale with modern updates including a scooter. I feel this is a great book to show strong female characters who take action.

A good story about family and teamwork. The importance of individual skill and strengths are highlighted within a story of sisterhood. This book contained beautiful illustrations that added culture and beauty to the story of a courageous group of sisters confronting a dragon that snatched up their
Show More
baby sister. This book could interest younger boys and girls with its action and varied interests of the sisters.

this book shows students that it is best to stick up for one another. If someone is in trouble and needs help, you should always give them a lending hand.

This book is about seven different sisters who are all different. There is a baby sister and a dragon snatches her up. But with all the other six sisters different special abilities they get the baby sister back. The baby sister grows up to be a great story teller and always tells that story. I
Show More
would not read this story to students because I didn't like that a baby gets snatched up by a dragon but the book does have colorful, detailed illustrations.

Another good life lessons book to teach about teamwork and family. There is also an air of fantasy with the dragon element that adds interest for students. Classroom use: Use as part of a unit about values, I wouldn't necessarily use it solely as a teaching device.

“The Seven Chinese Sisters,” by Kathy Tucker is a story about seven sisters and their own special talents. Although the seven sisters looks alike, they each had an individual skill that came in handy when their baby sister was stolen from their house by a dragon. Each of the sisters used their
Show More
talent to get their little sister back from the dragon, who in the end wasn’t mean, just a little hungry.

I found this book to be simple, but amusing, and probably a good read for first or second graders. Aside from the illustrations, not many facts are revealed about the Chinese culture through this story. After reading, I did find out that this was an old Chinese folk tale, which made it more meaningful and interesting to me.

After reading this story, children could write down the special talents that their siblings or their friends have, similar to how the seven sisters each had a special talent. This story could also be a good introduction to a folk tale lesson. This book could be read along with other folk tales, and children could then write their own folktale based on what they learned about the genre through these books.

In this tale, each sister has a talent that she alone excels at. First sister rides a scooter, one does karate, one can cook the best noodle soup in the world, etc. Seventh sister is a baby. One day a dragon steals away seventh sister, and the other sisters must rescue her using their own talents,
Show More
all working together. They are successful, and in the process the baby learns to talk. She grows up to be the best storyteller in the world, and tells this story first. The illustrations are appealing, pretty and bold colorful drawings.

This book is a Folklore story which was excellent. The story will explain to children that everyone has a purpose and if they do not know what their purpose is, one day they will find out. A pleasant teamwork activity will go well with this book.

7 sisters use their individual skills to battle a dragon. I love girl heros. A book with 7 girl heros is even better.

The seven chinese sister live together, who each have different talent. They used their talent to contribute to their family life and protecting each other. They have a sympathy heart as they understand the dragon's hunger and gratitude heart as the seventh sister told her story of being rescue by
Show More
her sister all the time.

This is a great book teaching about differences and family dynamics as well as culture.

Aww... I've nothing new to say except that I did like the simplicity, and I did like the updated idea of the sisters instead of the traditional brothers. I liked that each sister had a distinctive hairstyle and a different print on her gown, and yet they were similar enough to be sisters. I
Show More
wouldn't have minded seeing a bit more of the dragon - maybe in endpapers?
