Although this is the story of children in South Africa, it is one that some American children will be able to relate to. Parents leave. In this case, their father has been away for ten months working in the mines. Today, he comes home. The children prepare for their father’s return by cleaning, singing, and practicing their musical instruments. They wait for their father all through the night looking at the crossroads for the truck he’s coming home in. At dawn, the fathers finally make it home. They sing and play music all the way home in celebration.

Details: This book was written to interest children in grades K-3 and is on a 1.9.

This book is about a group of children eagerly awaiting the return of their fathers, who have been working in the mines for a really long time. The children don't see the men at first so they just keep waiting.
