This is a book that focuses on the stories of the Cherokee Indians. It is several different stories about animals that are given life to make stories.

Great selections of Cherokee trickster stories, including "Rabbit Races Turtle," a variation on the "Tortoise and the Hare" story of the Tortoise's victory over the Hare through perseverance and not becoming complacent. In the Cherokee tale, Turtle outwits the Rabbit and cheats by sending look-alike Turtle cousins on up ahead in the race, winning.

In the classroom, this can be one of many tales used when learning about Native American history; it can also be used to highlight folktales and the similarities many tales have across cultures, demonstrating a common humanity.
