The picture story begins by showing a boy writing a letter to the president. It then shows him walking through town to mail his letter and bombs are landing, soldiers are breaking down doors to enter homes and a bully comes after him by the mailbox. He shouts "No!" and as he walks back through town

the soldiers are being friendly, the airplanes are dropping bicycles instead of bombs and the bully becomes friends with the boy.

No! was a book that I found entirely unimpressive especially considering how enticing the cover had been. The story depicts a small child walking through a war torn area in order to deliver a letter. Eventually he stands up to a bully, which evidently is supposed to be a statement about revolting

in small ways to help the big picture. Although the message is important, the illustrations-though beautiful- hardly led the reader to that end. Especially if the reader was a child. Although the art was superior to the writing, I would give the book an overall low score.

VOYA 3Q 2P- Tough subjects for picture book- hard to understand narrative, requires a lot of discussion re:war, politics, violence. Wouldn't recommend for read aloud unless ready to tackle and explain these issues.

Response - This is mostly a wordless book. The pictures dramatize conflict through the perspective of a young boys. The pictures reveal a lot of meaning and can prompt a lot of discussion.
