A gentle, perceptive look at learning to accept change, and to be open to new friendships, even when mourning some kind of loss, Goodbye, Friend! Hello, Friend! pairs a simple but poignant text with soft, expressive illustrations. I don't know that this one is the equal to Doerrfeld's recent The Rabbit Listened, but I think it accomplishes what it sets out to do. Recommended to anyone looking for children's stories which address change and how to handle it, as well as the difficulties of parting with a friend.
