This book has beautiful detailed realistic illustrations with bold colors. It’s appealing both for its story and its pictures. The story is compelling to children as it about two animals who help each other to survive by staying together when Hurricane Katrina strikes New Orleans. As a surprising
Show More
twist, the reader discovers near the end of the story that the cat is blind and the dog has been “seeing” for him. A great true story about how 2 friends help each other. Great appeal to kids who like animals and a great survival story. Along the way kids will learn about the effects of Hurricane Katrina (or a similar natural disaster) on families.

This book would work well in a unit about friendship or even at the beginning of the year to talk about the importance of friends.

This was such a fantastic book I'm going to go out and buy it before I forget. I read this with a 3rd grade class and most of them loved it. This is such a great book because it helped to teach the kids more about Hurricane Katrina and just how much it affected everyone. The book is about Bobby the
Show More
dog and Bobcat the cat. They get left behind during the hurricane and don't get rescued. Finally, Bobby is able to break his chain and he and Bobcat set off in search of food and water. Bobcat always follows right behind Bobby's chain. They find a kind person who begins to feed them, but Bobby never lets him touch Bobcat. His boss tells him he can't keep them so he sets up a trap to take them to the shelter. When the shelter gets them, they are seperated, but they soon realize the two need each other. Then, they realize why. Bobcat is blind and Bobby acts as her seeing eye dog. They are able to set up an adoption to keep them together and it has a happy ending. The story is very well written and moving. The illustrations are fantastic and they are based on real photographs. This is a true story also. This is one I would recommend to anyone.

Ages 4 and Up - Two Bobbies is a sweet, true story of two pets who survived Hurricane Katrina. Later named Bobbie and Bob Cat because neither had a tail, this dog and cat pair were rescued by volunteers in the aftermath of the hurricane. When it was discovered that Bob Cat was blind, the tale of
Show More
the dog-cat bond and survival became a heart-felt human interest story. When volunteers couldn't find the animals' owners, the book describes, there was only one thing left to do: go on Anderson Cooper.
While the Anderson Cooper plug is a little ridiculous, the story gives a realistic but not too frightening presentation of the Katrina disaster and a sweet story of friendship and the dedication of these volunteers. The realistic illustrations are done in gauche and the book concludes with a photo of the pair and some additional information.
Recommended for non-fiction picture book collections.

Bobbie the dog and Bob the cat are abandoned in their home when hurricane katrina ravages their town. The animals struggle through hardships together, searching for food, struggling to survive when they are found by rescue workers and given a shelter. There it is discovered that
Bob the cat is
Show More
blind and that Bobbie the dog is her real life seeing eye dog. This is a true story of courage and animal bonding. Nice bit of current history for children who are unaware of Katrina's devastation. Seen through the eyes of pets, this gentle introduction will ease children into the realities of natural disasters. Illustrations realistic enough for the content of the book.

This delightful children's picture book is based on the true story of a stray cat and dog who were rescued from the streets of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. The dog had a length of chain dangling from her collar, indicating that she probably broke free during or after the storm when her
Show More
owners did not return. Rescuers named her Bobbi and named the cat Bob Cat. Originally put in separate cages at the shelter, the animal friends were unhappy with the separation and calmed down as soon as they were put in the same cage together. It was soon discovered that Bob Cat was blind and that Bobbi had been serving as his seeing eye dog during those months wandering the deserted streets of New Orleans. After increased media attention, the two were adopted by a family right here in Oregon. This is a touching book about survival and friendship that will be enjoyed by both young and old.

***SPOILER ALERT*** As someone who frequently vacationed in the areas ravished by Hurricane Katrina, I have read several books on the devastation caused by this monstrous storm. None of them have touched me quite the way this story of Bobbi the dog and Bob Cat the cat has. Many residents were
Show More
unable to take their pets with them to the shelters where they evacuated in the wake of the storm. Bobbi and Bob Cat were left behind to fend for themselves. Bobbi was apparently chained but eventually managed to break free. Bob Cat followed along. Eventually they are rescued by construction workers and eventually taken to a shelter where both animals insist on being together instead of separated. It soon becomes apparent that Bobbi has been serving as Bob Cat's seeing eye dog. Although the pair are never reunited with their owners, they do end up in a good home. It is a very touching story that is well-illustrated.

Two Bobbies tells the story of a dog and a cat that became friends while they struggled to survive Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath in New Orleans. This story portrays the difficult situation in the city during and after Katrina accurately and is helpful in showing young children what it was
Show More
like to live through Katrina in New Orleans. This is a heart-warming tale of the strength of the bonds that can be forged between members of two species, the tragedy that many animals faced after Katrina hit the city, and the lucky few who were rescued.

Best Hurricane Katrina book! This informational picture storybook always makes me cry. Side note - my Standard Schnauzer, Marie, wandered up to my Hurricane Katrina damaged home in June, 2006 wearing 2005 Biloxi, Mississippi rabies tags. Before finding her former owners, we thought she had washed
Show More
our way in the storm. She hadn’t, she was merely no longer wanted (except by us). Back to the review – Bobbi, a dog and Bob-Cat are two former pets adrift on the streets of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. This is the story of how they found strayed into a construction site and eventually found a home. While the authors speculate about the animals’ life on the streets they refrain from anthropomorphism. Jean Cassels, a New Orleans artist’s gouache on watercolor paper illustrations beautifully supplement the text. She even included Xs on the houses in her post-Katrina streetscape. The photograph included in the afterword shows Bobbi and Bob-Cat after their rescue. This book is a hit whenever I read it to students and adults. The library copy is always checked-out. I’ve also shared it with out-of-town volunteers who come to help at my school or in my neighborhood) - they almost always leave with my copy of the book, which is why you should buy several at a time.

Oh my goodness! This was a very cute book, and I would recommend it to anyone of any age. It opened with the story of Hurricane Katrina, and the fact that many people could not bring their pets. Unfortunately, many pets were trapped in their homes without any food or water. This story told the
Show More
story of Bobby and Bobcat in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, and how they wandered the city without any sustenance. The duo then came across a construction site, and was fed for a little bit. Then they were brought to a local arcade, Celebration Station, which was apparently made into an animal shelter. The two “bobbies” always hung around each other at the shelter, and then the rescuers found out that one of them was blind. They quickly became famous in the area: they made their TV debut on Anderson Cooper’s show. Eventually, the two were adopted to a new family, and are now living in Oregon and are very happy. The pictures were really cute. I think it is an informational picture storybook.

This is a loving story of a cat and dog that support one another through the trials and aftermath of Katrina. Positive story overall, but may bring sad memories to the forefront for those who experienced the disaster. I would not share this book with my class at this time. In the future, may be

used introduce the genre of non-fiction and to address accuracy of text.

Two Bobbies provides a great perspective on the struggles of Katrina. While speculations are included, this story encompasses true friendship in the midst of a tragedy. It may be difficult to read for someone who experienced the hurricane and its aftermath; however, this story's theme of finding
Show More
friendship in a difficult time is memorable.

The children's piece, "Two Bobbies", is a work that manages to encapsulate the hardships of Hurricane Katrina, yet with a delicately placed mask of positivity enshrouding it to make the content safe for children. There is something emotionally stirring about viewing a disaster through a child's
Show More
perspective, and "Two Bobbies" manages to draw that out of the reader quite effectively.
However, as a potential secondary education instructor, I do not believe I could use this work effectively in order to teach a class. The only use I would have for this work would be to use it as an example of the evolution of nonfiction from child literature to adult literature. I would begin with "Two Bobbies" and end the class with an example of a more adult, nonfiction portrayal of Hurricane Katrina. That would be one of the few ways I could use this book to teach a high school class.

This book traces the story of a dog and a cat that became friends through Hurricane Katrina and helped each other survive. It is based on a true story that was featured on Anderson Cooper 360. I thought this was a good book to read to students when discussing true friendships. Children in my
Show More
district who are a little bit older than 5th grade now would be able to personally relate as they have gone through Hurricane Katrina. As for the accuracy, I was concerned about parts that they had to create due to the fact that the story was based on animals.

What a great book! The story is many of the stories that came from Hurricane Katrina. No ones life was every the same after that storm. This book however has a happy ending.

This is an amazing book based on a true story of Hurricane Katrina victims. Bobbi (a dog) and Bob Cat (a cat with a bobbed tail) are abandoned by their owners and left to fend for themselves. They exhibit incredible courage and undying loyalty in their fight to survive. In the end, they are adopted
Show More
by a family in Oregon which makes this an even better book. Highly recommended!

Two Bobbies is a book that I would use in my class as part of a character building activity on friendship. Although it is not related to math, it is great book for character development lessons which I usually incorporate into my junior high classes throughout the year.

Two Bobbies is an emotional story about two animals rescued in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, a recent major national disaster affecting New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. The story describes the relationship between a cat and a dog that were found together and were unseparable. Some of the story
Show More
is not factually accurate, but is peiced together with likely situations as people were forced to evacuate and then were not allowed back into the city. The book is a non-fiction informational picture 32 page story book intended for a K-3 audience.

What a heart melting story! This is very relevant to those of us who went through hurricane Katrina. It's mesmorizing to see how animals, who are much like humans, help, love, and care for each other. A MUST read!

This book is about Bobbie the dog and Bob Cat the cat, and their journey through Hurricane Katrina. It shows their struggles through the aftermath of the hurricane, but how they were able to survive. These two animals were lost, but ended up being brought back to health. They were adopted by a
Show More
lovely woman, and were able to find a new home. This book would be great to use in the classroom because I can show my students what happened during this hurricane bcause they might not know. It also teaches about friendship and how everyone can get through difficult times if they have someone with them.
