Filled with wonderful illustrations by Jack E. Davis, Zachary Shapiro's "We're all in the same boat" gives us another fun spin on a classic story. Kids (3-6 yrs.) will love the alliteration in the stories and all of the funky pictures of the animals--a perfect accompaniment to alphabet learning!

Although this book has a religious setting, it in no way enforces religion so that it should be limited to people with certain beliefs. Similar to An Annoying ABC, the story follows animals who are becoming increasingly frustrated, by using the alphabet to name the animals and their actions. This

book doesn't particularly stand out to me, but it is still cute and worthwhile to read at least once.

The illustrations were adorable, each character had a certain atmosphere about them and we could definitely tell their personalities just by looking at their expressions. The story introduces the idea of Noah and the Ark in a sillier way, explaining the long period of time in which the animals had

to stay on that boat. Each animal is brought up with an emotion that starts with the same letter as the animal. This book also introduces readers to the different sounds of a letter, soft and hard: for example, "the Giraffes were Grumpy." Also, the animals in the story were easy to relate to, as they did what we liked to do for past times and they loved wearing fun clothes.

This alphabet book about Noah's ark was kind of funny and educational at the same time.

Like "The Annoying ABCs" Shapiro uses unusual adjectives to describe the attitude of the animals stuck together in the ark. Livid llamas are unusual things to see. The art work is nice, but I didn't love it. It was very cartoonish, which is usually good, but there is something about it I don't
Show More
love, I can't even put my finger on what it is.
This is another example of a great book for expanding the vocabulary of the students.

In this book the animals board the boat by the alphabet but through alliteration they get antsy or clown around and end up getting on everyone's nerves. But with patience they all find a way to get along. I like this book as a way to teach the alphabet and unusual words.

This is basically toddler book goofery with all the ark animals cooped up and doing sulky things that start with the same letters as their names, building up to Noah's kicker line "We're all in the same boat!" which turns their heads and makes them do making-the-most-of-it same-letter things
Show More
instead, which really makes little sense either as a joke or an observation in its discursive context. Like, yeah, you're all in the same boat, and everyone's mad about it. Yeah.
