Library's review
This book is a careful study of the Chinese paintings in the Charles A. Drenowatz Collection, with the aim of giving the reader a thorough understanding of the paintings in the collection. The author has focused his attention on the circumstances surrounding the creation of each painting -
'Despite the diversity in both style and subject matter, these paintings, when taken as a group, do present a picture of the Chinese painter as a scholar-poet-gentleman... with his love for poetry and wine, for visits to famous mountains and rivers, for literary gatherings with people of similar disposition, and for a world which gives him both joys and sorrows. This, as I see it, is the underlying unity of this catalogue.'
