Library's review

This is a catalogue published Shiko Kataoka's solo exhibition "Linked Lines", held at the Pendulum Gallery, Vancouver, from May 6 - 30, 2002. The exhibition also travelled from Toronto to Edmonton in 2001 - 2002.

Inspired by a conference on Japanese Women's Texts, Shiko Kataoka created a series of

calligraphy works inspired by over 1000 years of Japanese writing by women.

'While the way trod by women writers from the Heian period to modern times flashes with spelndour, it is a world of beauty born from pain like that of a wound. Reflecting on this, some works I have tried to express with a restrained "yamato" feeling; on them all, I have staked my heart.'
