Description: "Ivory Coast, 1978. It's a golden time, and the nation--an oasis of affluence and stability in West Africa--seems fueled by something wondrous. Aya is loosely based upon Marguerite Abouet's youth in Yop City. It is the story of the studious and clear-sighted 19-year old Aya, her easy-going friends Adjoua and Bintou, and their meddling relatives and neighbors. It's a wry soap opera revolving around the simple pleasures and private troubles of everyday life in Yop City."--Cover.

I used this book to read volumes 2 & 3. This is a fun read and I plan to read the rest of the series.

A simple and interesting tale, in cartoon form, of life faraway, in 1970s' urban Africa.

More Aya and her friends and fam in mostly romantic scrapes! Her dad's mistress brings their two children to Aya's home; The Miss Yop Contest concludes; Bintou's dad is offered a second wife; brother Albert's mystery love is revealed. Great fun but print is too small for these old eyes.

Lost interest in the storyline after 50 pages. Teenage growing up and true-love drama, set in middle-class Ivory Coast. Artwork is nice. Maybe I’ll try it again another time, but just not in the mood for it now.
