Description: Mevlana Jelaleddin Rumi (known in the West as Rumi) was a spiritual master - having transformed from a learned theologian to an ecstatic lover of the Divine. After extensive study throughout the Middle East during his youth, I've settled in Konya, in what is now modern-day Turkey. There I have dedicated his life to spiritual teaching and composing a voluminous canon of mystical poetry. Now, over seven centuries later, the people of Turkey continue to be the keepers of these cultural and spiritual traditions. Although many English translations of Rumi's works have been made by outside scholars and poetry interpreters, it is with great joy that we offer the first translation done by Turkish Sufis and Muslims, who live and breathe this beautiful cultural inheritance, and who have grown up hearing the parables of their beloved Mevlana. The Mesnevi begins Rumi's poetic discourse and heart-pouring of the last 15 years of his life, filling six volumes with rose-scented wisdom. The pure translation of the Mesnevi by world-renowned Turkish scholar Abdülbâki Gölpınarlı from the original Persian to Turkish is the source from which this English edition has been translated. Working via the original Konya manuscript, this version includes verses which have been missing from well-known English versions and their interpretive derivatives. This translation is also under the endorsement of Mevlevi Sufi leader Postneshin Jelaluddin Loras Efendi, founder of the Mevlevi Order of America. -- from publisher
