I hate fundraising. It is definitely not my gift and I try to avoid it whenever possible. If you are like me, then this book is for you. There are chapters on every kind of fundraising opportunity. The book begins with helping you analyze your group, what nonprofit means, how to recruit volunteers,
Show More
and plan your strategy. There are chapters for requesting donations or sponsorships, selling things or services such as a bake sale, raffle, car wash, etc., and planning an event. Then there are chapters on each kind of event. A dinner, an auction, a fair, a festival, a benefit concert, a home or garden tour, a walkathon, a contest, a game or sporting event. Each chapter goes into detail and gives key steps to the planning and organizing of the event. A guide to how much planning would be needed is listed, along with how to hold the event, and how to follow up. There is a chapter on applying for grants and a CD with all the forms you will need.

What a valuable resource this book is especially for the novice who hasn't had experience in raising money or holding an event!

This Nolo guide is well organized, which makes it easy to use, and it covers the field of fundraising pretty thoroughly. They explain a large selection of the most common ways to raise funds, but it doesn't start there. They cover issues related to starting and running various types of non-profit
Show More
groups and how to work with volunteers and keep them motivated. They also cover various legal issues and the book comes with a CD of forms. It also goes into the application process for government and private grants. There is information which will be useful for all different sizes of groups although the focus of the book is on relatively small groups. The author does a good job drawing on expert advice as well.

I got the book not long ago. It is well organized, thorough in its approach to this especialized topic (fundraising for your non-profit), provides diverse tips on how to, and also illustrative examples from people that are involved in the field! It is an easy read.

The table of contents displays why this is such a great book for volunteer fundraisers. As an introduction, it is deep enough to be truly helpful in getting started but wide enough for you to feel confident that you understand all of the areas needed for successful fundraising. There are chapters
Show More
on recruiting volunteers, legal fundraising opportunities, thoughts about different opportunities, as well as a CD with templates for all kinds of needs. If you can only get one book to get you started in fundraising, this is a good one to have.

Quick non-technical overview of various fundraising venues. Geared for the smaller nonprofit just learning there way through the development maze. Should be a helpful resource for volunteers looking to put on an event to help their favorite organization. Recommended for newcomers to fundraising and

development.

how to choose the right fundraiser for your group, how to execute fundraisers efficiently, and so much more. It really is a great place to start when it comes to fundraising as a volunteer.
