Description: There are many routes to Enlightenment. During the 2005 fall retreat, Joel recorded a series of seven instructional talks which take the student from the beginning to the end of the bhakti practice of devotion.

Starting with verbal prayer, Joel guides us deeper and deeper down through the four “hearts” described by the mystics—the physical heart, the emotional heart, the spiritual heart, and the Radiant Heart, or Consciousness, Itself. Along the way, we learn to free our attention from all distractions, shed our worldly attachments, and transform our self-centered desires and aversions into love and longing for the Divine Beloved. Finally, we enter into the Great Silence of the Radiant Heart, where we have the possibility of Realizing that we are already One with the God we have been so ardently seeking.

Devotion 1: Verbal Prayer
Devotion 2: Prayer in the Heart
Devotion 3: Purifying the Heart
Devotion 4: Entering the Spiritual Heart
Devotion 5: Unceasing Prayer
Devotion 6: Silent Prayer
Devotion 7: Doing Nothing
