Description: There are many routes to Enlightenment. During the 2006 fall retreat, Joel recorded a series of eight instructional talks which take the student from the beginning to the end of the jnana practice of inquiry.
In these talks, Joel guides us through an experiential inquiry, beginning with an investigation of the impermanence and emptiness of the objects which appear in consciousness. Then, we turn our attention to a systematic investigation of the separate ‘self’ we think we are, asking such questions as: “Am I a body?” Am I emotions?” “Am I thoughts?” “Am I an agent of self-will?” “Am I the subject to consciousness who experiences all these things?” Finally, not finding any entity that can be identified as a separate self, we enter a Space of no-self in which it is possible to Realize that our True Identity is Consciousness, Itself.
Inquiry 1: Preparation Meditation
Inquiry 2: Impermanence & Emptiness
Inquiry 3: Causes & Correlations
Inquiry 4: Are You a Body?
Inquiry 5: Are You Emotions?
Inquiry 6: Are You Thoughts or Will?
Inquiry 7: Are You the Experiencer?
Inquiry 8: Doing Nothing
