Alphabears is a delightful introduction to the ABCs. Each letter is introduced as the name of a teddy bear with a distinct personality tied into the same letter. Each letter has two rhyming lines. The illustrations are outstanding. They are gentle and harken back to an earlier time. It is

incredible that this book was written and illustrated in the 80's. It is a very old-fashioned ABC book and will delight old and young alike!

Decent read aloud/good rhyme scheme. Like the gashlycrumb tines but with bears and not morbid.

There are no awards for this particular book. This book is sufficient for kindergartners and preschoolers. This is a very simple texted book that preschoolers and kindergartners will enjoy reading as they are listening to the order of the alphabet. This book has a letter to each page and every
Show More
letter is the name of a bear. They say the name of the bear and they have a little poem about what that bear likes to do. This book deals with the alphabet, rhyming and seeing how the letter is used in a paragraph. For preschoolers/kindergartners I would bring in my puppet bear and have him read the book to them. Once we read the book I'll see if the children remember the order of the alphabet and I'll write it on the board. Then they will come up with names beginning with the letter of their last name and the most unique name will be the new name of my puppet bear.

5) Alphabears is an alphabet book where each letter is represented by a name of a bear. pictures are provided on each page and also include a small poem for children to make correlations with the letters.

6) An activity that can be associated with this book is to have

children pick their favorite animal and have them make a name from each letter of the alphabet. students could draw pictures of their animal underneath each name and draw it different colors for each letter. A teacher could also make a book out of the students work so they could look through their own alphabet book.

This book helps kids learn their alphabets by associating each alphabets with the name of a bear and their action. This would be a book that I would use to help kids with their alphabets.

This is a nice warm book for younger children to learn the Alphabets. The photos are detailed and the bears are living lifes' twists and turns and just plain ol' life.
