I have the 1982 version of this, so my criticisms may have already been addressed in subsequent editions.
I think Orbach's ideas about why women overeat are interesting, and her self help tips concerning intuitive eating and group therapy are useful. My problem with the book is that there is too

much emphasis on thinness as a result of intuitive eating for my liking. For one thing, thinness is not always the result of intuitive eating, and for another, such an emphasis on thinness can still lead to disordered eating. Having said that, I do think some of the methods and ideas in this book can help people, and would recommend it to those who also like the work of Geneen Roth.
