I've bought a number of Little Critter books for my nieces, because they really like them.

And anyway, they're short, they're funny, they're topical, and they're cheap.

In this one, Little Critter details all the things he can do "by himself". Of course, the illustrations give the lie to his words -
Show More
sure he can pour his own juice, but he doesn't say that he spills, that sort of thing.

Anyway, he very cutely does a lot of things "by himself" before reading that he can't tuck himself into bed - he needs a story.

Aw.

Little Critter is learning to care for himself, and does a fine job, even if he's a bit inexperienced.

This Mercer Mayer book is such a good book to read to younger elementary school age students. It discusses all of the things that the little boy can do by himself. He can get ready and dressed, kick a ball, sail a boat, roll on the ground, look after his sister, etc. There is one thing that he cant
Show More
do by himself though. He needs someone else to read him a night time story. Most young students can identify with this. They can do many things all by themselves, which is something they are very proud of.

All By Myself is another great Mercer Mayer books. This book is on about a 1st grade level and would be a good read for beginner readers. This book is about a boy who can do so many things on his own now. He can tie his shoe, gret out of bed, put socks, etc. FIrst graders can relate because they
Show More
arening how to do so many things on there own now. You can do some good activities with this book too! Its also a great book to just have in your class library!!

All By Myself is a great Mercer Mayer book. I remember having this book on tape and listening to it at least twice a day. This book is on a 1st or 2nd grade level and would be good for beginning readers. It's about a boy who can do a lot of things, such as tying his shoe, brushing his teeth,
Show More
getting dressed, etc. , all by himself now. Younger children will appreciate this book because they are learning how to do some of the same things. It's a great book to have in the classroom library.

The Little Critter books are great for beginning readers. They are clever stories that kids can relate to. This book would be great for showing kids that it is okay not not get things perfect, especially when you are first learning.

This is an excellent book for beginning readers who are also learning how to do their own daily tasks on their own. It is very encouraging and includes some repetition as the main character continues throughout his day to do things for himself, even he does not complete them perfectly. It also can
Show More
be related to an art project of some kind where students share what they are proud of for doing on their own since often young students like to talk and share about themselves and their experiences at home and in the classroom.

This book is about all of the things that Little Critter can do on his own. He can tie his shoes, ride his bike, give his bear a drink, etc.

Little Critter is just like my toddler daughter in thought and action. He captures the whims and imaginations of a toddler so completely, that every book that I read to her from this series is perfect for her two year old mind because it rings true. In this book, we tackle the subject of
Show More
independence. Little Critter can do everything by himself - brush his fur, get his food ready, get dressed. The sentences are a repetitive pattern of "I can (various actions) all by myself." How well he can do these things by himself, well, that's another matter, and the illustrations humorously point out that his attempts aren't perfect.

In this simple, sweet, and very human picture book, Mercer Mayer's popular Little Critter shows us all the things he can do by himself, from tying his shoes (almost) to pouring his own juice (and only spilling a little). The wry illustrations often point up the fact that Little Critter doesn't do
Show More
everything perfectly, but he makes an effort to do the best he can.

This book can be used to help younger students see that they can do a lot by themselves. The students will enjoy the pictures and seeing all that they can do on their own.

WHO didn't love, love, love Little Critter!? I was obsessed with these, but I really remember this one. He tries to be a "big boy" and do things for himself, and because he's little, he messes it all up. Classic kid's book. Loved it. Read it 300 times, i'm sure.

I liked this book because of the writing. I think the writing was simplistic and would be perfect for an early reader. Each page includes just one sentence of text. For example, “I can button my overalls,” and “I can brush my fur.” This book would be ideal for a beginning reader as well as
Show More
many other Mercer Mayer books. I do not think there was a strong central message of the book. I think the point of the book was to show ownership and that the character can do many things on his own without any help. It shows students (who are mainly at transition ages) that they do not need help with everything and there are many things they can do on their own. Overall, I thought it was a good book and I really did enjoy the simplicity of the text.
