A young boy takes us through his day using all different colors to describe the feelings of those around him. Mama is RED, look out! ...Gram's got the YELLOWs, I can tell...The mix up some oatmeal raisin cookies (I hope) yellows. The language flows like a poem, broken up like jazz music.

A very interesting boy categorizes his and his family's feelings in terms of color. The book reads like a poem, making it a great read aloud book. It is a great introduction to feelings and how we can talk about feelings in many ways. It gives students the opportunity to describe their own feelings

In this story we read about a little boy and how he expresses his feelings by using colors. While he is doing this for himself he also does it to talk about different feelings and colors his family also has. He describes what colors give him what feelings, i.e. the blues for feeling down, the reds

for being mad and the yellows for being happy or excited. We learn about how you can use different colors to also express how you may feel. Great book and very colorful in illustrations when describing the feelings of color.

This African American children's book is fun to read. It sounds and feels jazzy. The rhythmic sounds of the words just seem to roll off your tongue as you read this aloud. The book links each family members' feeling and experiences to colors. We used this book to talk about feeling blue, red,

golden, etc. My daughter loved for me to read this book to her.

A boy express how he felt blue yesterday, and green today. His dad had the greys, his sister has the pinks, his older sister has the indigos, his mom has the reds, and his grandma has the yellows. The boy described the emotions depicted by each color and how in the end his whole family was golden.

A little boy describes the different emotions of himself and his family members using colors. The illustrations represent the feelings using the colors that he says. If had the blues- the pictures were blue, the greens- then the pictures were green, etc. This is a bool to show the connection

between feelings and colors, and also that no matter how sad, mad, happy, etc- family alone gives you a great feeling that is golden!

Summary:
This is a book about an African American boy who describes how he feels each day and his family life by colors. It has a very nice rhythm feel and also seems like a poem.

My Reaction:
This would be a good way to have children who are young learn to describe the way they are feeling.

Extensions:
1. I think this would be a good book to read after the kids have a bad day. A lot of children don't know or aren't allowed to express their feelings.
2. You could also read this and then have the children color a picture of themselves or a family member and color them like the boy described his family.
