Excellent, funny book with a good story-line that encourages timid youngsters (and even some adults) that it is okay to step outside one's comfort zone. Good vocab and great ideas!

Scaredy Squirrel builds his own beach scene near his tree only to discover he's missing the sound of the ocean, so he makes a plan to get to the beach, and a safety plan for when he is there. He has to use his safety plan as he wasn't counting on people being there!

A definite must to have in any classroom. It still tells a good story to get over your fears and try something new, so I'd probably adapt it in that way.

You can't go wrong with a book when the author is as good as this one. I give two thumbs up. Very funny and enjoyable for all ages.

Scaredy Squirrel begins to conquer his fears. He is forced to travel to a real beach to find a seashell full of ocean sounds. He prepares for every eventuality but doesn't realize that the beach may be full of people. After playing dead for two hours, he decides to join in the fun.

This is such a

human experience--feeling fearful or reluctant before an event, and yet totally enjoying the experience once it begins.

Another day in the life of the adorable quirky scaredy squirrel. This time its off to have a beach adventure and it is delightful as always. Adults and children alike will love this little guy and appreciate some of his "issues". If you do not like this book, you have no heart

Follows the Scaredy Squirrel format. This time at the beach. Scaredy tries to re-create the beach at the base of safe 'ole nut tree. The only thing missing is the sound of the beach. He forms a plan to securely go to the beach, get a shell (ocean sound), and hightail it back to the nut tree.

Genre: Fantasy

Review: Scaredy Squirrel creates has a fear of the different crowds at beaches. In order to complete his home-made beach, he must conquer his fear and go to the beach to collect one last item. This book is a good example of fantasy because the fantasy story stays together throughout

Determined to avoid the dangers posed by seagulls, jellyfish, sea monsters, pirates, coconuts, and lobsters, Scaredy Orville Squirrel (S.O.S.) sets out to create his own beach in this, his third adventure. But when he discovers that his imitation is missing something, he ends up heading for the

real beach after all, in a carefully orchestrated campaign that (inevitably) goes wonderfully awry.

I enjoyed Scaredy Squirrel at the Beach, and appreciated some of the little details, like Scaredy's middle name (and consequent initial scheme), as well as the continuing theme of discovery and confidence-building, in which the hero learns that the intimidating world outside his tree has many wonderful things to offer. The illustrations are bright and appealing, the format (with lots of lists) entertaining. Another winner in Mélanie Watt's ongoing picture-book series about the phobic squirrel!

I embarrassed my son when I saw this at the library: Oh! A new Scaredy Squirrel book! Yay!" Well, sorry, but I empathize with the little dude and have a lot to learn from him as he copes with his anxieties and has fun despite them."
