This fantasy is about a hedgehod who dreams of travelig into outer space as an astronaut. I did not think it was very creative though, I though it was a
very simple and plain story.

I didn't really like this book. It talked about aliens and had many dogs as humans and only one hedge hog. I do not recomend this book, especially becuase of the aliens. Way to many questions can come from that.

Hedgie has never been to space but he is the only who can fit in the craft to go to space. Hedgie is going to save Mikkop. When he gets to Mikkop he sees that it is full of coins. Hedgie makes a brave move and jumps out to clear the coins. Once the coins are clear flowers instantly start to grow.

When Hedgie gets back he is awarded the first astronaut hedgehog and is considered a real hero. This was a fun book to read. I would read this to a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grade class. I think it would be good to talk about during science. It would make space a little more interesting.

Hedgie works on the cleanup crew at a Space Lab; but he has always wanted to be an astronaut. When a problem arises in space and in the lab, Hedgie gets to help out and become an astronaut!

The book is about a hedgehog who goes to outterspace to fix a Big Sparkler on a tiny planet in outer space.

This book was about believing in your dreams. This book shows children that it doesn't matter who you are or how small or big you may be, if you can think it or dream it than you can do it. You should never let anyone tell you you can't do something. Hedgie wanted to go into space and he did

because he always believed in his dreams.

Hedgie the Hedgehog is part of the cleanup crew at Star Lab, though he wants to be an astronaut. When Big Sparkler on Planet Mikkop gets clogged by coins, Hedgie is sent to fix the problem because he is the only one small enough to fit on the spacecraft. Hedgie unclogs Big Sparkler and is given an

Hedgie works at the space lab and wants to be an astronaut. He gets a chance one day when the Big Sparkler will not erupt. He goes to space to figure out the problem. He finds out that there are too many coins in the Big Sparkler and solves the problem and comes back a hero!

The hedgehog is one of Brett’s favorite characters in her books, and in this one Hedgie’s tiny stature is his ticket to an adventure in Outer Space. He uses critical thinking skills and his personal attributes (prickles) to solve an “astro”nomical problem!

Hedgie Blasts off is a cute book about Hedgie the hedgehog, whose greatest dream is becoming an Astronaut. Currently Hedie works on the clean-up crew for Star Lab (run by a dog Professor who is in charge of Outer Space no less). As we join the story The Professor is telling Hedgie to call in all

the scientists, they've got a problem with the Big Sparkler and they MUST do something about it right away! The scientist work and work and build a Rescue Robot to send out to fix the problem...but come the day of the launch Rescue Robot seems to have probed too soon (winding up in the storage closet). It's up to Hedgie to save the day and travel out to the Big Sparkler and assess the problem. Will he be able to determine what's happened to make the Big Sparkler stop working? You'll have to read to find out!

Overall, this is a charming little story about never giving up on your dreams because they may come true in unexpected and unusual ways! This cute little tale is enhanced greatly by the vivid and colorful artwork that will give kids something extra to do...as it's so rich and full of detail that readers will want to pause and really get a good look at all the detail before moving on to the next page! I give it five stars, this is an excellent story book for young readers and would make a fine read aloud for ages 0-4 and an excellent beginner book for your budding reader (ages 4-6). Kids over age 6 will probably be enthralled by the art, but the story will probably not be of much interest to them.

Hedgie wants to be astronaut really bad. He works at the star lab for the smartest scientist ever! One day when he got to work he was told the big sparkler wasn't working. They needed to fly to it and see what the problem was. They got everything ready for the launch but something happened. The

robot crashed and couldn't go. They didn't know what they were going to do and who was going to take the robots place. That's when the scientist asked Hedgie if he would go. Hedgie was thrilled and couldn't wait to go. When Hedgie arrived to the big sparkler he found the problem. There were coins that were filling up the big sparkler. Hedgie was determined he was going to fix and he did. KABOOM it went. When he arrived home he was promoted to be an astronaut. This is a book to read just for fun when teaching about space.

This was a far cry from some of the previous Brett books we have read. This one seemed just a little bizarre.
LibraryThing member Turrean
A cute piece of nonsense. My students laughed at Hedgie's solution to the geyser clogged with alien coins. There's not much of a plot.

This story is about a hedgehog who works for a science lab and when their robot fails and he is the only one that can fit into the rocket he is sent up to fix the problem. This book has very fun and exciting pictures that can be inspected for some extra humor.

This would be a great book to read when teaching a lesson over the planets and solar systems. It also would be great for setting. To get the students thinking that a setting can be anywhere in the world or out of the world.

Hegie Blasts Off is about a Heghodge who was just a janitor. One day he has the opportunity to save the world. Great book to show your students that it doesn't matter who you are. You are needed and maybe one day you can save the world.

Saw this on display at the library and felt compelled to pick it up. Jan Brett creating a science fiction adventure?! Well, ok. Emphasis clearly on fiction. Don't buy it. Otherwise, pick it up at the library and see for yourself if you like it. The one part I did like was that the members of the
Show More
Press were birds. Too bad they weren't birds known by science to be smart, like ravens, mynahs, pigeons, or gray parrots.

A really nicely illustrated book about a hedgehog who really wants to go to space and ends up a hero.

Hedgie the Hedgehog, who works on the cleanup crew at Star Lab, dreams of being an astronaut.

One day, the Big Sparkler on the tiny planet of Mikkop stopped erupting sparkles; Big Sparkler could only send up a weak stream of sparkles. Something had to be done right away; the sparkles were the food

for the flowers. Everyone tried to work out a way to get to Mikkop to fix Big Sparkler.

When the Rescue Robot crashes, Hedgie is the only one who can fit into the rocket. Will he go? Will they find a way to fix Big Sparkler and save the flowers?

The illustrations accompanying the text, done in watercolor and gouache, are a perfect accompaniment to Hedgie’s story. Readers young and old will cheer for Hedgie in this delightfully-told tale youngsters will want to read again and again.

Highly recommended.
