This book is about bird, who is playing with Raccoon, and gets bonked in the head. He cries because it hurts so bad. Raccoon tries to make it feel better by kissing it, but it does not work. Raccoon decides to take him to a different animal to fix it but it does not work and this progression
Show More
continues as he goes from animal to animal trying to make him feel better in a different way. Eventually all the other animals start crying until Bird realizes he feels better and decides to tell them "all is well" and they start playing again.

Bird is playing a game of catch with Raccoon when he gets bonked on the head. Raccoon tries to comfort Bird by kissing his boo-boo, but Bird can't stop crying, so they go to Rabbit for help. Not Rabbit, Beaver, Sheep, or Fox can make him feel better, but once Bird realizes he has upset his friends,
Show More
he realizes that maybe his boo-boo wasn't so bad after. They all feel better and play some more catch. This is a cute book about friendship. The illustrations are colorful and fun. Any parent could relate to Birds "milking" of his injury:)

I love this story! The dialogue is fun to read out loud, and the story is so sweet. All of Bird's friends are so supportive doing everything they can to help him feel better. I love how it ends with Bird overcoming his pain to play catch once again.

We all know what it feels like to get hurt. Even more we all know what it's like when nothing can make our pain go away. In this cute story, after a little bird gets hit in the head with a ball, all of his other animal friends try to make the hurt go away by comforting them in ways they think will
Show More
help. However, nothing they do helps to comfort the little bird's pain. Finally, after feeling so badly for bird and growing frustrated, the little animals begin to cry themselves. Upon seeing this, little bird notices that his pain has gone away. Sometimes, knowing that our friends are empathetic enough towards our hurt is enough to make our pain disappear.

This book was about a bird who was playing with a raccoon. While they were having a catch, the bird got hit in the head with the ball! The bird began Boo Hoo(ing) hence the title! Many animals tried cheering him up and while all this was happening before the bird knew it, his head wasn't hurting
Show More
any more. He realized it wasn't that bad any way! I thought this was a funny book, but very true. I remember when things very similar happened to me when I was little and I reacted the same way! the pictures were also very cute. I was deffinately attracted to the cover from the start, that's one of the reason's why i chose this book.

It's a wonderfully colorful portrayal of a small bird who gets hurt and none of his friends can make him feel better. It's a great book for young children to look at and enjoy all the different animals and great illustrations.

This is the story of Bird, who gets bonked on the head by a ball while playing catch, and his friends all try to come up with ways to make him feel better.

When I first picked up this book I flipped to a random page and read the sentence “He felt his bonk.” After taking a moment to figure out
Show More
what that actually meant, I had to read it from the beginning and found this to be one of my favourite children’s stories so far. The childlike characters and Birds complete overreaction to getting bonked in the head make for a realistic story that I think young children could completely relate to. It isn’t until he is distracted by his friend’s overreaction that he realizes that his “bonk” is ok. This story is realistic, the characters are adorable and the bright, colourful, but simplistic artwork really makes this a simple but effective story.

This story won the 2010 Blue Spruce award.

In Boo Hoo Bird, Bird gets bonked on the head, and although his friends try very hard to console him, it proves difficult to get his mind off that bonk! The illustrations, using digital collage, feature bright colors and simply drawn characters with a lot of expression! I could see using this book
Show More
in my classroom to talk about friendship, resolving problems on the playground, and to enjoy this delightful story together!

In Boo Hoo Bird, Bird is bonked on the head during a game of toss. His friends try hard to find ways to make Bird happy again. Maybe hide-and-seek or a cookie will help Bird feel better. No, not that. The illustrations are unique with the use of ink and digital media which bring out the characters
Show More
and let the background fade into the background.

Bird finally realizes that is boo boo really does not hurt that bad and must help his friends to stop crying (they are frustrated that they cannot figure out a way to help Bird feel better). Eventually all is well and ends with a game of toss - but this is how all the trouble started.

This story can be used to help students feel empathy towards others who are hurt. If they cannot help someone, maybe they could find someone else who could help in a difficult situation.

Use of vivid colors from cover to cover. Story was great with trying to help their friend that was in need because of a blow to the head. I enjoyed the illustration as there was a great deal of dark lines used to outline the characters in story. This story made me giggle! Great to show younger

students about friendships and having fun. Good for early readers.

This is a great book about friendship and the importance a good friend can have on our well-being. I would love to use this book in the preschool. For example, if a child is at home sick I could read this story aloud to the kids and the kids could come up with idea on different things we could do
Show More
to make the sick preschooler feel better.

Summary: This is the story of a little bird who gets hit on the head while playing with his friends. His friends then think up ways to make him feel better.
Genre: Picture Book
Personal Reflection: This is an enjoyable story about friendship, and focuses on thinking about the concerns of others over
Show More
your own. Loved the bright colors.
Concept: This book teaches an important lesson to kids about how to be a good friend. It would be a good read aloud book and kids could then make up their own lists of what they do to comfort a friend when they aren't feeling well.

The theme of friends helping each other is pervasive in this story. The sentences are short and simple, and the lesson is one that all preschool and young elementary students can relate to. Parents will relate to all the attempts to “heal” Bird with affection, bribes, diversion, and the
Show More
always-magic band-aid. But what really makes him feel better is realizing that his friends care enough about him to get upset at his pain. Bird cares about his friends too, and he doesn’t want them to cry over his injury, so of course he immediately demonstrates that he is alright. If he was over-dramatizing his injury before, he stops as soon as he sees that it is negatively affecting his friends. This book would make a great read aloud during classroom community circle, or for a parent to read to a child. The ironic ending, in which Bird gets injured yet again during a new game of catch, brings the story full circle.

The younger audience might gravitate to this for its use of characters and color and could be used for a discussion about friendship and solutions.

Jeremy Tankard's grumpy bird returns but this time he's not grumpy - he's injured! Bird is playing ball with Racoon when a throw goes awry and Bird gets bonked on the head. Soon Bird's friends are trying all the classic fixes - kissing the bonk, hugs, cookies, a band-aid - but nothing is working.
It's not until a surprise turn of events, that Bird is restored to himself.

Tankard continues to knock them out of the park with utter simplicity. His characters could be copied by a beginner and yet they're still enormously expressive. His text perfectly mimics a toddler/preschooler who is working himself into a tizzy over a minor injury. A particular highlight is Bird's outraged, "I CAN HARDLY WALK!!!" in response to Sheep's suggestion that they play hide-and-seek to feel better.

The whole thing will make kids giggle as a read-aloud, while they'll want to grab the book themselves to spend time exploring the ink and digital illustrations - especially that hide-and-seek spread. Kids will also want to join you for Bird's increasingly loud "Boo hoo hoo!" refrain.

Used for La Petite preschool storytimes 7/16/09.

Bird gets "bonked" on the head in this follow-up to Tankard's Grumpy Bird, and spends most of the rest of the book being inconsolable. A kiss from Raccoon, a hug from Rabbit, a cookie from Beaver, and a band-aid from Fox seem to have no effect on his weeping. What does? Imitation, of course...

children have experienced a fall, a blow, or some other kind of injury, and will be able to identify with Bird, just as their parents will recognize his instinctive playing for sympathy. As one reviewer has noted, Bird is a bit of an "avian prima donna," but his adventures are relatable and amusing, for all that, and emphasize the importance of friendship. Tankard's simple, brightly colored illustrations enhance the sense of fun, and will keep young readers' attention. All in all, Boo Hoo Bird is a worthy follow-up to the first!

Today I'm reviewing a book called Boo-hoo Bird. It's about a bird that gets a boo-boo and starts to...boo-hoo. Then his friends try to cheer him up. YEAH. THis book was made by Jermey Tankard. Who made the first book, Grumpy Bird. It's a nice picture book and I liked it.

This book is a great example of teaching kids emotions and how to deal and cope with issues. It also has the social aspect of teaching kids how to help each other. Not only can they relate to Boo Hoo Bird, but they have seen their friends get hurt too and this book helps them figure out what they
Show More
can do to help their friends when they get hurt again. Very cute and engaging for all readers!
