But woe to that shaman whose evil tahmahnawis caused mayhem or death among tribespeople--that sorcerer was surely murdered. Accounts detail shamanic cures of alcoholism, spirit sickness, and more. The shaman might handle rattlesnakes with impunity, or locate the lost dead. Finally, twelve visions by Native Americans recount of an extra-body death journey, a rebuff and forced return to life and penance.
