It was a long time since I last read a book from Knut Hamsun. In my memory he wrote sad books, but Wayfarers is far from sad although it has some elements of sadness in it. Reading this book coming back from my holiday in Norway I recognised the admosphere of the Lofotes and the small villages in

Norway. The story follows the main person Eduvart from a young boy to a man with success. It gives depth to the side figures. Important is the role of August, but also the other persons like e.g. Mr. Papst and Pauline come to live. It is a very readable book and you want to know what happens to all these people. You sometimes feel really sorry for the people and at other times you enjoy their success in life. Show Less
