Description
A visual and conceptual consideration of two American icons, Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe. The book is the companion volume to an academic conference entitled "Icons of Popular Culture: Elvis and Marilyn". Portraits of Elvis and Marilyn are among the world's most famous images. The essays in this anthology address the issue of a proclamation of a new faith in a time -- defined by some as postmodern -- which is a time of transition. The works of art reproduced in this book, representing a variety of media, are about Elvis and Marilyn but they are also about a new way of seeing, one that challenges the current holdover of a 19th-century visual language.
