When we hear the term "folding screen", we have a tendency to think of Asian, especially Japanese, art. And this would not necessarily be wrong. But with the opening of the East to trade, the folding screen was transported to the west, and there was changed and adapted to western tastes.

This book is a gorgeously illustrated discussion of the folding screen in western art, from early tapestry screens, through Whistler and the japonaise influence, and trompe l'oeil, to contemporary screens of industrial materials, and coming full circle to modern Asian works.

Yummy.
