This book generated enormous debate for a time, then it was forgotten. Some of the criticism was as good and as well considered as the book itself was, but much of the criticism seemed petty and even hysterical. It was as though the ideas in the book threatened the entire world-view of the critics.

I considered it very important and worthy of more attention.
