How can she when there's so much upheaval at home and school, not to mention the world at large? And yet Marlys always seems able to tap into it. I love how right Lynda Barry is about childhood. Maybonne and Marlys are universal and so, so real. Some of Marlys' more irrelevant contributions to this comic collection bugged me a bit--I found myself skimming them--but otherwise this is just a heart wrenching account of adolescence.
