Description
The photographs of Joy Gregory, both delicate and politically charged, in this mid-career survey. This mid-career survey features 11 series of photographs by Joy Gregory - exquisite objects that explore the representation of black women and 'lost histories' of the post-colonial world. Since the early 1980s, she has used her talent for making objects of beauty to work through themes of race, gender and identity - so that they are both beautiful and about beauty - using a variety of photographic media including photograms, gum bichromates, cyanotypes and video stills. Each series of photographs is contextualized by Gregory's commentary.
