The Coming Community

Drawing on ideas from Italian philosopher Giorgio Agamben’s theorisation of community as something which continuously shifts and reforms itself, this publication and the exhibition for which it was produced brought together two artists and an artist collective: Grace Ndiritu, Andrea Zittel and the Karrabing Film Collective. These artists are all engaged with imagining new ways of being together in the face of global, political and ecological instability. Alongside informative texts on each of the artists written by Edward Ball (Freelands Artist Programme Curator, Freelands Foundation), the publication also contains an essay from critical theorist and filmmaker Elizabeth A Povinelli and a piece by Grace Ndiritu about her artwork The Ark: Center for Interdisciplinary Experimentation (2017).
