Summary of the Book
This picture book is about the similarities and differences that children can have. It discusses similarities such as living on the same street or having the same name. It also discusses the differences such as having different eye and skin color. In the end, it talks about how

nice it feels to accept other people and be accepted for who you are.

Personal Reaction
Living in a military community, my family and I are surrounded by many different types of families. This book reminded me about my family’s similarities and differences with other families, and how nice it feels to be accepted into the military community.

Extension Idea
Provide each student with a worksheet that asks for his or her favorite color, sport, television show, holiday, and season. Divide students into groups. Each student will ask each member of the group if they share the same favorite things. At the end, we will make a tally chart to collect everyone’s answer. We will discuss the similarities and differences of their favorite things.

I liked the book “I’m like you, you’re like me” by Cinder Gainer. One reason I liked this book was because of the writing and language. The writing was organized and flowed well. On most of the pages it starts out by stating how we all do one thing but we may do it differently. On one page

it states, “We celebrate holidays and special days. Sometimes we celebrate the same holidays. Sometimes we celebrate different holidays. Sometimes we celebrate the same holiday but in different ways.” Another reason I liked this book was because of the illustrations. Besides where the words were the illustrations took up the entire page. The illustrations were brightly colored and showed emotion in all of the character’s faces. This allows the students to understand how the characters are feeling. The big idea of this story is that we are all different people, but we can be the same in some ways. It is okay to be different.

This story is about differences and similarities. Some things talked about in the story is skin color, size, eye color, etc. I enjoyed the illustrations. I think any child could learn and relate to this story.

In this book, it describes the differences of these young children at school. From how their hair is, to their skin color, to how their families are.
