Sam Steward, who wrote under the pen name of Phil Andros, began writing in the 1960s, when the legality of gay erotica was questionable and its authors and publishers had little power over copyright. His work marked a seminal moment in the gay movement. My Brother, My Self is one of Andros? best known works. It contains a series of inter-related erotic stories involving a long-lost twin brother, a loaded college student who is a fast learner and a butch cop from Oakland.
