Which powerful mystery man killed the gay activist for outing him? In Third Man Out, tough-as-nails gay private investigator Don Strachey investigates the murder of a self-righteous Queer Nation activist who may have been killed for outing prominent closeted gay homophobes.

Fourth in the "Don Strachey" mysteries, in Third Man Out, Don is hired to protect the life of a gay rights activist who sees it as his duty to 'out' every closeted homosexual in the region. Naturally, the activist has pissed off a lot of people and collected quite a few death threats. Unfortunately
Stevenson's writing is tight and entertaining, though this is one of his more-somber "Don Strachey" books, with less cause to laugh aloud. Still, I enjoyed the story very much.
This book has also been turned into a movie; although it portrays a much-simplified version of the book, I thought it was fairly well done.
