Description
The one thing that Eric Fitzpatrick wants is to escape--both from his family and the racially tense town in which he lives. The only son of an Italian-Irish family in a working class suburb of boston, he intends to go away to college and leave his old life far bhind. Not only is the ending a cliched showdown at the graduation ceremony, but it also seems far too manufactured. It is also very dramatic for the remainder of the story, which makes it unsubtle and meaningless. In spite of this, this compelling page-turner novel has a lot to offer.
