Toni is a Lieutenant in Riverside California. She gets assigned to an apparent serial killer case. The highway 60 murders. For some reason Toni goes to Palm Springs and starts working with a female Sarge at the PSPD to solve the case. I'm still quite unsure why she had to go to Palm Springs to

solve it, but...

There's also a ranch that has a whole lotta things going on. And so Toni's girlfriend (and a former cop and current criminologist) goes undercover at the ranch. Yes, that didn't go horribly wrong...

On the good side of the scale I don't think I've read too many mysteries from this time period (early 90s) with so much forensic stuff in it. Very cool.

On the other side I didn't like some of the thought dialogue. It was a bit awkward in how it was written. I also thought that some of the prose was heavy handed and in some other parts it was a little choppy, lots of lists sort of description. Not horrible to read, it just didn't flow very well.

Although I do believe I'll try the second book to see what happens to Toni.
