A worldless, musical story following an anonymous child's yellow umbrella as it takes a journey to school and meets other umbrellas. Comes with a CD of music to listen to while you look at the pictures.

Children's Picture Book

I love this book so much. The music and playful illustration is

phenomenal. We read this all the time and the music is a favorite around our house independent of the book as well.

I think this book would be a great jump off point for a classroom art project mixing music and art. Putting the book up a document camera and listening as a class then having children draw to music them selves would be great enrichment.

This wordless picture book is meant to be "read" while listening to a seven minute soundtrack, included on a CD. It was an extremely joyful experience for me to simultaneously enjoy the sweet, simple piano compositions, along with the colorful painted illustrations. This is a great tool to spur
Show More
literary (and musical) interest in very young children. The illustrations contain a subtle counting theme, a new colorful umbrella shows up on each new page.

HIghly recommended! This is a wonderful artistic concept!

This is a great wordless book because of the illustrations on the pages. The watercolors are really engaging and children would love to look at all the different colored umbrellas. At the end of the book it has children with the umbrellas so it ties the story together for the reader. Every umbrella
Show More
had a kid holding it you just couldn't see the child, and when a new umbrella was introduced it was another child meeting the first child to go to school. It would be a fun book to talk about what the students think each child was doing on each page and where they were meeting.

This book is great for many grade levels. Pre k to fourth grade. The book follows a yellow umbrella, and on each page another umbrella is joined the yellow umbrella. For younger children it can be used for counting and finding colors. For older children it can be used for make a story about what

they see. There is also a song that you can play while you show the book to the children. This book won one award, the New York Times Best Illustrated Book.

This wordless picture book follows a yellow umbrella through rainy streets. Sometimes there is only one umbrella with the yellow one, other times he is in a large crowd of rainbow colored umbrellas.

The version we have available at our library gives a CD that goes along with the story. This could
Show More
be used in a music class (similar to Fantasia - animated music) or in a regular classroom as a jumping point for writing a story based on illustrations.

Pretty even without the CD. Lyrics and sheet music are at the back of the book.
