Not her best. Guess the series is getting to long in the tooth

Stephanie goes to Vegas. I didn't like the mystery as much this time as it was a bit creepy, but still a good read.

Entertaining, but I miss the quirky gay/transvestite side-kicks. Lulu is ok, and I would not want her out of the picture, but this series needs more.

Book nine (or is it ten? nine and a half?) in Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. This time, Stephanie is out to apprehend a guy whose US work visa is about to expire, which involves following him to Las Vegas. Meanwhile, someone keeps sending her flowers, but not in a good way, and she begins to
Show More
notice her biological clock ticking.

It's possible I was just in the wrong mood for Evanovich right now, but I think I may have reached the point where this series is starting to get old for me. There are some funny moments -- Stephanie switching out her bad luck with cars for bad luck with bodyguards was fun -- but a lot of the stuff that was meant to be funny -- an overdone running joke about Lula's diet, Stephanie's target's annoying landlady -- really just weren't.

Meanwhile, Stephanie's Lust Triangle of Doom, which I'm not a fan of, continues apace. And I am really, really ready to be done with plots that involve Stephanie being stalked. It's starting to be creepy in a bad way. And the revelation here of why she was being stalked in this one was just... dumb. I mean, OK, you don't read these books for the intelligent plots. Maybe the problem was mine for not being able to turn my brain off far enough (something I'm usually quite willing to do for this series so I can just sit back and enjoy the ridiculous ride). But... But it was really, really dumb.

This one felt odd...rushed somehow. I was disappointed cause it was very obvious who the bad guy would be from the very first time you meet him. There weren't enough twists or turns that made any real difference to the plot (even though I liked the final resolution/explanation of the setup). Also,

for some reason, one paragraph appeared twice in the book in different spots with very little change. Very confusing. An okay read, but I had a feeling as if it was more going through the motions than being genuine. I would definitely not want to rad this one again.

OMG! I read another one. Was I nuts? Did I fall and hit my head?

Once again Stephanie has learned nothing about her job and how to do it adequately. It’s starting to wear thin. In this one, it’s not a criminal she is after, but a missing man who filed a Visa bond with Vinnie. This means that he
Show More
will not try to stay in the US after his Visa runs out. But the circumstances of his disappearance are weird – there seems to be a sick human hunting ring out there. Random murders that are really connected by this game. Stephanie is the next prey victim.

The identity of the person organizing the game was pretty obvious although I did get the wrong end of the stick about the game. I thought that the missing Visa guy was a victim in the sense that he was prey. He was actually a hunter as well. The hunters are pitted against each other and when one kills the other he gets a reward from the game master. The reward is a random victim to kill.

Anyway, there were the usual side-plots about Ranger and Morelli. Grandma Mazur didn’t feature so prominently in this one, but her sister Valerie did. She’s still living with their parents and is 9 months pregnant with Kloughn’s kid. Only she doesn’t want to marry Kloughn. In the end she is convinced that she should try and Steph gives up her apartment to Valerie and Kloughn (because he lives with his parents too). So now she has to stay at Morelli’s place full time. No bolt hole.

There were no exploding cars in this one thankfully. But boy Lula is really portrayed as a moron. She goes on a protein diet and drags around chickens and bacon and pork chops for snacks since she can eat all the meat she wants. Surprise, surprise, she gains weight and is trailed by stray dogs wherever she goes. It was a little too much.

Fun, fasting moving book with interesting characters and story lines, not as good as previous books in this series

Bounty hunter Stephanie travels to Las Vegas, where she meets up with Sally Sweet, Joe Morelli, Ranger, and a host of eccentric Vegas-inspired characters, and works to outmaneuver a trio of mobsters who are determined to prevent Stephanie's return home

Didn't really expect it to be much but since some online friends had read the books and there was two parts on sale in the Second Hand bookstore, I decided to buy and shelf them until I got the time to read it. I have almost finished it by now and I have to say, I was surprised. It's funny, it's

exciting, has a lot of action, witty dialogue and sexy characters. Going to read the Ten book next.

Stephanie Plum goes in pursuit of Samual Singh, but who's the real hunter?

I listened to this book about Stephanie Plum and I truly enjoyed the experience. There have been very few books that make me laugh out loud, especially listening in a car, but this one did several times. Lula is by far my favorite Ho character in the book, she made me laugh more than anyone else
Show More
except maybe Grandma Mazar.

Stephanie Plum is a bounty hunter who works for her cousin Vinnie. Stephanie doesn't like carrying a gun and has 2-3 men in her life who like to keep her head swirling. In this one she Lula and Connie even take a trip to Vegas trying to track down a guy on a visa work permit. Much fun ensues and Stephanie once again almost gets herself killed.

The very first page sucks you in and has you giggling with the image of a naked FTA who's greased himself with Vaseline to keep from being taken in. The rest gets better as people turn up missing and dead and Stephanie and her gang of misfits set out to try and solve the mystery. Everything you'd

expect from a Janet Evanovich book.

I have a feeling that this serious will dominate my 'read' list. This is book nine of the Stephanie Plum series & it is just as interesting as the first book. I don't how she does it, but Janet Evanovich has managed to keep this series going without any dragging lulls.

I read one or two of those each year, usually during summer. What was a revelation in terms of laughing to tears from beginning to end at the first volume has turned into a summer read habit: the effect of surprise is lost but Stephanie's misadventures remain good fun. I'll see her next summer...

Once again Janet did justice in adding to the story. Stephanie and Morelli living together however once again for how long. I am wondering if they will ever end up together. Although it makes for interesting reading.

As usual, some very funny scenes.

What's not to love? I did figure out the killer by page 83, but with Grandma Mazer and Lula and Ranger and their various schemes, I was still tearing through the pages.

Another fun adventure with Stephanie. For once there was not a cliffhanger. I'm still interested to see how her relationship with Ranger and Joe progresses.
LibraryThing member TadAD
Much better than the last couple, though the reader can see the villain coming a mile away.

I've seen Evanovich's books many times and nver picked them up, but had always thought about it. At a book sale I picked up this book, and the next one in the series to see if I liked them.
I don't think I've ever read a murder mystery where I laughed so much in my life. Evanovich's setting in New

Jersey, complete with characters loaded with sarcastic smartass atittudes makes for a VERY refreshing change, and a delight to read. With me being a sarcastic smartass to begin with, this book, and writing style really appealed to me. My wife started to get agitated with me, becuase I kept reading her segments, and trying to talk her into reading this one.
Stephanie Plum is a Jersey girl, and a bounty hunter. A bizzare combination to be sure, but one that really rocks. Hunting down a "VISA bond skip" for the bondsman she works for gets her involved in a bizzare twist where she ends up the target of a crazed serial killer and a killing game. Whenever she has a lead on her skip, someone else turns up dead. Mix in her family - realistically crazy and funny - and her love interests, and you have a great easy reading story that pulls you in and has you anxious and laughing at the same time.

Pretty much on the same level as the last book (see my review for Hard Eight). It’s got a so-so plot, but quite a few hilarious moments. I almost peed my pants laughing in the very first chapter when Stephanie has to go after an FTA who calls himself “the Vaseline man.” Another extreme laugh

attack occurred when Valerie goes into labor and her water breaks, splashing all over one of Ranger’s tough, macho bodyguards. Stephanie is back with Morelli and has some amusing encounters with his Grandma Bella, but I’m still feeling rather ambivalent about the series’ romantic relationships. The Morelli situation seems too good to last, and Evanovich is probably going to throw a wrench into it, forcing Stephanie back into Ranger’s arms - rinse and repeat. But To the Nines is still a fun, hilarious, and entertaining story, and I’m undoubtedly going to keep reading the series.

Stephanie's new sunshine yellow Ford Escape doesn't get blown up - but the body count is unusually high in the ninth installment of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series.

To The Nines brings us out west to Las Vegas where the girls - Stephenie, Lula, and Connie - track down a new kind of FTA, one

for a Visa Bond. Unfortunately, he is a player in a deadly web game, where the bullets are real and the players kill one another off in order to find out who their final target is. Morelli and Ranger work double time trying to protect Stephanie, and keeping every hair on her head safe might not be realistic this time. Did I mention Lula's on a diet?!?

In my opinion, To The Nines was missing something. Maybe it needed a trip to Silva's Funeral Home. Maybe it needed more family dinners with Grandma Mazur. I'm not sure. We still had Morelli. We still had Ranger. Plenty of people were still breaking into Steph's apartment. Most importantly, there was still plenty of action and one-liners!

Here are a few of my favorites:

"Lula was a ho in a previous life. One night while plying her trade she had a near-death experience and decided to change everything but her wardrobe. Not even a near-death experience could get Lula out of spandex."

The review wouldn't be complete without a great line about New Jersey and all her glory:

"Fancy-pants wimps in L.A. rated their pollution and curtailed activity. In Jersey we just call it AIR and get on with life. If you're born in Jersey, you know how to rise to a challenge. Bring on the Mob. Bring on bad air. Bring on taxes and obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and macaroni at every meal. Nothing defeats us in Jersey."

AMEN, sister!

To all my friends in New Jersey: if you haven't started reading this series yet, you're missing out on a great time. These books are my candy, and I absolutely love them! Throw the first book, One for the Money, into your beach bag this summer, you'll be thanking me before it's time to reapply your sunblock!
