One of the first Boynton books we owned. Now that we have read many, I know that the story uses a familiar theme for Boynton fans - going to bed. This time, the animals are on a boat, and as the sun sinks they troop below deck to proceed through a bed time ritual: taking a bath, getting in pajamas,

brushing the teeth, and exercising. Exercising?! Yes, the story is a bit surreal - after all, why are they on a boat? - but that is part of its zany appeal. Silly ideas and cartoony illustrations are her trademark, as is the wonderful readability of the stories, as the words just roll off the tongue. Taking a break to exercise after taking a bath just doesn't make sense, but it does make me laugh. and the lilting rhythm of her words has a soothing quality perfectly suited for a bed time story. This is another family favorite.

A Sandra Boynton classic. "The Going to Bed Book" tells the story of a group of animals getting ready for bed on a boat-- in very different, entertaining, and peaceful ways. There is a beautiful iPhone/iPad app for this book as well.

We love this book so much. Calm, sweet, and just a little bit silly. Got it memorized.

Fantastic book Both my kids love it. It has lots of tiny details that both catch and make stories to enhance the book

My favorite bed time book to read to the little ones. The Boynton menagerie washes up, exercises a bit, stretches out, turns out the light, and then they "rock, and rock, and rock to sleep." A lovely calming way to end the day, and a quick last book before bedtime.

I loved this book. It had a great rhythm, and it covered the basics of going to sleep. The only thing that I could say wasn't great was that it advocated exercising right before going to bed, and as we know now, that's not something to do right before bed. Otherwise, it was a fantastic book. Very

cute.

A Boynton rhyme about the going to bed routine illustrated with lots of adorable animals in a Noah's-Ark-like boat. They take bath, brush their teeth, exercise, and finally say good night. Then

The Moon is high. The Sea is deep.
They Rock
and rock
and rock
to sleep

This is my absolute favorite Boynton,
Show More
and that is saying a lot. Somehow it's brilliant. The rhyme is so memorable that after reading it several times you can read it to your kids from memory without having the book with you... and the kids will follow along perfectly. It works on very young kids, and doesn't start to wear out until they are maybe three (About the same time most Boynton's did for my older one. Boynton's are really prefect for the 2-to-3-yr-old range.). Many a night we put our kids to sleep just by reciting this book with the lights off.

For anyone concerned about the Noah reference being too "religious", rest assured the only one who will notice is the adult reading the book.

The Going to Bed Book is a book about animals who are getting ready for bedtime. They take a bath and put on their pajamas. Then they brush their teeth and exercise. After exercising they go to bed.

This is my favorite children's book. I have read this book so many times I have it meomrized. I read

this book to my toddler class over and over. This is definetly a book that I recommend to all teachers.

You could pick out the ryhming words throughtout the book. You could also talk about the routine that people have before bedtime. You could ask your students about their own bedtime routines.

A helpful book for nap time and bedtime. This is an amusing, delightful book especially for children missing their parents at school or fearful at bedtime.

A nice, short board book with colorful pictures.

No. I can't let it go. Why bathe, put on jammies, brush teeth, and THEN EXERCISE? It gives me the willies every time I read it.

It's a great tool to use, sharing a familiar book at a certain time of day, to calm children into the routine of going to bed. The Going To Bed Book is a fun, rhyming story about a group of animals that all together go through the routines of going to bed. They take their bath, put on their
Show More
pajamas, and say goodnight. It's easy to imagine this fun, comforting story being a night time staple.

Probably my favourite Boytnon title next to to her Pajama Time!. With its soft words and simple illustrations it really does frame bedtime routines. The Going to Bed Book has become our family bedtime mantra, and both boys are able to recite it verbatim drifting off as we "rock and rock and rock to

sleep..."

This is the absolute best for getting the little guy to sleep. Short and sweet with

Cute, but I wasn't charmed by this book.

A gentle, short, easy to memorize bedtime story for toddlers. It's a little odd that the animals exercise right before going to sleep. But we love the "rock, and rock, and rock to sleep" part at the end. A good one for toddlers and preschoolers.

Cute as all Boynton books, but the suggestion that little readers heading for bed get up and do jumping jacks does parents a disservice, and may be simply irresponsible.

Sandra Boynton shows us about the prepartion of animals such as take bath, brush their teeth, and so on before they go to bed. This book also tellls the truth of life that is when the sun has gone, the moon will come.

The ark of animals gets ready for bed in this wonderful tale that is certain to be a bedtime hit! A good suggestion for students who may have trouble sleeping!

In this book the author tells the readers about animals on a boat and their bedtime routine. It is considered fantasy because we all knows animals don't put on pajamas and brush their teeth although the book is very relatable. For example, "With some on top and some beneath, they brush and brush
Show More
and brush their teeth."The author uses rhyming to keep the readers attention as well. For example, "They hang their towels on the wall and find pajamas, big and small." The illustrator also uses detailed pictures so the reader would know what is happening throughout the book without the words.

I started reading this to my older son when he was six months old. We read it every night for 4 years. It's a family favorite!

Colorful and crazy animal characters demonstrate how to get ready for bed. Very fun illustrations and excellent humor in this informative book. Great for introducing kids into a routine for bedtime as well as reading.

The use of blank backgrounds helps to accentuate and add emphasis to the
Show More
characters in this book. Bright color and animal characters makes the material fun and accessible for younger readers and there is always a goodly sense of humor in all of Boynton's books. I am just enchanted with anything by Boynton and this book is no exception.

Very cute and involving around the routine of bedtime.

This modern fantasy book tells the story of animals who are going through their bedtime routines. They are on a boat and the sun sets. They take a bath and wash their bodies. Then they hang their towels and find their pajamas. They all brush their teeth and exercise before bedtime. The animals are
Show More
tired and go to sleep.

I do think it's interesting that this eclectic bunch of animals bathes together. 100% innocently, but still, a child might ask questions. A good answer would probably include the word 'silly.' Also, I don't think most children have a bout of vigorous exercise as part of their (post-bath) bedtime
Show More
routine. Again, it's silly. Exercise in the morning; stretch in the evening. :)

I'd be willing to bet some families love this book. I liked it, but found it a little, um, flat - maybe these very short board books are just not appreciable if one is not sharing them with a child.
