Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus is a great transition book. This particular book is about Junie B. Jone's first day at school as a kindergartner. We all know the first day of school can be intimidating. This book is realistic fiction because many children go through the same troubles on

the first day of school.

This is the introduction to Junie B Jones and how she sees the world; she is starting kindergarten and does not want to ride the bus, and where she meets her two best friends Lucille and Grace and all the other kids in her class.

Junie B. Jones is getting ready for kindergarten. She is scared to ride the smelly bus. She rides the bus to school on the first day. The teacher gives the kids a tour of the school. When the time comes to get on the bus at the end of the day, Junie hides in the supply closet. She goes to the
Show More
library and the nurses office. She needed to use the bathroom but all of the doors were locked, so she called 911.

Personal Reaction -

I liked this story. Junie B. Jones is a sassy smart mouthed character. You never know what she is going to say or do next. When my son was in 2nd or 3rd grade, the Junie B. Jones series was popular with the girls in his class.

Classroom Extension Ideas

-I could use this as a fun teacher read aloud in class.

- This would work for a small goup book. They could have a crossword and some questions to answer when they get done reading.

Junie B. Jones started Kindergarten and she was afraid to ride the bus. She met her teacher and told her she was to say her full name. JUNIE B. JONES. Junie B. couldn't remember her teachers name, so she just called her Mrs. She met many mean children on her way to school, but finally found a
Show More
friend. She got scared at the end of the day because someone told her she would get chocolate milk poured all over her, so she went a hid in her classroom. Everyone looked for her, but she wasn't coming out. Everyone left the school and Junie B. had to use the restroom, but the door was locked. At the end of the story all the emergency people showed up at the school and they finally found Junie B. Jones. As a child who was also scared to ride a school but, I can really relate to this story. I never wanted to go to school because I always thought something was going to happen. I was just like Junie B. when I first started Kindergarten, I didn't have any friends. It never occured to me that students still get just as scared as I was as a child on the school bus. In the classroom, if I have younger students, I would like to start the year off reading this story. This way students can realize that there are other students, even in story books, that get scared of things at school.

Genre: Realistic Fiction
Critique: This is a good example of realistic fiction because everyone experiences having to go to Kindergarten at some point and it is a very real. All the experiences that Junie B goes through are very much realistic. The questions and feelings that she has are ones that
Show More
many people might have.

Humorous, light hearted book that is the first book in a prolific series. In this book we meet Junie B. Jones and go with her to her first few days of Kindergarten. We meet her new best friends: Lucille, who is rich, and that Grace, who saves Junie B. a seat on the bus. We also meet her teacher,
Show More
Mrs. (she has another name, but Junie B. just likes "Mrs."). Junie B. has adventures and fun along the way, and is a bust out laughing book for child and adult.

We, my daughter and I, reccommend Junie B. books to your reading list. Remember to read to your child at least 20 minutes a day, and your child will go far! (Since this is LibraryThing, I don't think 20 minutes a day will be a problem.)

While this book was funny, I was a bit put off by the disrespectful nature of Junie B in relation to her mother, teacher and other students around her. Respect of authority is huge in the classroom, and this little girl is just a handful!! In preschool, we spend a LOT of time trying to teach
Show More
respect of others, both of their feelings as well as personal space. That said, this story is really from a young child's perspective, so is interesting to note the way in which she views the world at this young level of understanding. Simple things like riding a bus to school become quite traumatic to a little child, especially if they have never done it. Small things really become quite scary to them. Additionally, young children are very literal and egocentric, so it makes books like this one very funny. The author has clearly worked with this age group and understands these concepts. I wondered if Barbara Park based her books on her own life experience or those in the classroom. By shear curiousity I looked up her biography on the Random House site! So, no, this series of books are not based upon her life. However, I suspect as a grade school teacher, Barbara Park has had several 'Junie B Jones' in her classrooms in which to base this character.

I chose to read this chapter book because it was on the banned book list. This story about Junie B revolves around her not wanting to ride the school bus so she hides in the school causing a fright to her teacher and mother.

This is the first Junie B. Jones book to read and I have to say I really enjoyed reading it! I loved reading how Junie B. would get into hilarious situations! In this book, Junie B. desides that she doesn't like riding the schoolbus after school at all and proceeds to hide in the classroom paper

closet. This is a great book for readers transitioning from longer picture books to easy to read chapter books. This was a quick and enjoyable read for me!

Junie B. Jones has a very exciting and interesting first day at school. She has to ride the school bus and ends up hating it!! When she gets to school she makes a few friends and they inform her about the scary ride home on the buses so when it was time to leave that day she hid in the supply
Show More
closet so she wouldn't have to ride the school bus home. She takes an adventure around the school getting into everything and in the end she causes a lot commotion and gets in trouble by the principal and her mother. To get Junie B. to like riding the bus her teacher introduces her to a friend name Grace and they end up riding the bus together and Junie B. likes it after all.

This book would be a great for 1st grade students. There are a lot of kids who have bad experiences on the bus and this book would give them a better understanding that not all bus rides are terrible.

Junie B Jones is starting her first day of kindergarten, and is afraid of the stupid smelly bus that she has to ride to get there. I can relate to this fear, as a junior high school student I vividly remember being in awe of the high schoolers that survived the experience of a huge building with
Show More
hundreds of kids teeming about. Junie gets into trouble and uses language I imagine a real kindergartner would use. The book is split into chapters and can easily be enjoyed by early elementary kids as well as actual kindergartners. I would include this in my collection.

The first in the series about Junie B. Jones begins with Junie B entering kindergarten. Junie B is going to be riding the bus, and she’s not so sure she likes this idea. When the first bus ride to school goes less than great, she decides not to go home on the bus and hides out at school instead.

While written in a mostly believable 5-year-old voice (mostly because I’ve never met such a bitter and grudge-holding 5-year-old), this chapter book is obviously beyond the reading skills of the majority of kindergarteners. I’m not so sure older children will really like reading about a character they would consider a “baby,” although the popularity of this series suggests otherwise. Personally, I didn’t like the Junie B character much so I could not really get into the book.

Junie B. Jones is a cute little girl who is starting school. In the first chapter book she has to ride the bus to school and she really doesn't like it at first. The first day she avoids the bus by staying at school and hiding in the closet. This scares her mom. When her mom finally finds Junie B.

they decide that maybe the bus might not be so bad after all and she rides the bus to school again the next day.

Junie B. Jones is a spunky young girl who is starting her first day of kindergarten. Junie is very nervous about getting on the bus for the first time. This is a great series to introduce young readers to chapter books.

This is a story about Junie B Jones and her first day of kindergarten. She hates the bus and does not want to ride it. She hides and gets locked in the school because of this.

Junie B. Jones is a very funny five year old who is about to begin her first day of kindergarten. I love how children can relate to her because she has the same problems that children her age face. She is scared of monsters, makes grammatical errors, has to deal with siblings, and has to go through

the first day of school. Children will definitely enjoy it.

This is the first book of the very popular Junie B. Jones series. In this book Junie is starting kindergarten and has to ride the bus to school, which she really does not want to do. On the bus ride to school the bus smells like egg salad sandwich, the kids are mean, and Junie can't open the
Show More
window. After she finishes her first day and the kids are lining up to get back on the bus, Junie decides to hide in the supply closet so she doesn't have to get on the stupid, smelly bus again. After everyone leaves she gets to explore the school all by herself!
The book was a cute read. The author did a great job at showing readers what this experience would be like through the eyes of a kindergartener, although I was a little surprised at how snippy Junie B. sounds at some points.

Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus by Barbara Park

Junie B. Jones is about a little kindergartner that is afraid of going to school on the big yellow bus. Junie B. has met her teacher and thinks that school could be fun, but getting on the big yellow bus is not what she wants to do. After a
Show More
sleepless night, she has to get ready to get on the bus and is very much afraid. As her mom pushes her up the steps, Junie B. tries to sit with a girl and gets turned down. After what seems like an eternity to her, the bus finally makes it to school. Junie B.’s teacher takes the kids on a tour of the school and shows them all around. As the end of the school day approaches, she realizes that she has to get back on that stupid smelly bus and makes a point to be last in line. This way she is not noticed when she slips out of line then proceeds to hide. Junie hides in a secret hiding place until she thinks it is safe to come out. She goes and enjoys all the places that she took a tour on when all of a sudden she has to go to the bathroom. She finds out that all the doors are locked and she thought to herself that this is an emergency and calls 911. She is rescued by the janitor and many others, such as the police department, fire department, the principal, the teacher, and her mom. She got in a little bit of trouble but she didn’t have to ride that bus home. Her mom realized how scared Junie B. was to get back on that bus and made a phone call to one of her school friends and the two of them got to sit together on the bus.

I can relate to this book because since I have started school, my kids have had to ride the bus. They were both excited, but at the same time were a little nervous. They both sat with each other to help each other feel safe until they found friends that ride the same bus. They are both comfortable now and are excited to ride the bus to school and back home. They even race down to the end of the street to wave to the bus driver as she finishes her route in our addition.

In the classroom, this book can be helpful for the kids that do ride the bus and are nervous about getting back on it. This book can help those kids relate and help them feel as if they are not alone. This book can also be helpful when talking about taking a tour of the school. I would have the kids draw on construction paper what the school looks like from the different areas that they toured that day and draw the different ways that they will go home for the day, whether it is there parents picking them up or going on the bus home.

This book is extremely adorable. It's about a little girl named Junie Beatrice Jones, but she wants everyone to call her Junie B. She is a very lively character. The book is about her starting kindergarten and the many different troubles that she faces, like riding the bus, or making friends. This

book is great for little children who are entering kindergarten.

Going to school for the first time; big scary yellow buses where you can’t sit where you want cause some little girls got her purse on the seat saving it for someone else and where chocolate milk gets poured on your head... well, at least that’s what Junie B. heard, so when its time to line up
Show More
to go home she hides (cause she’s a very good hider) in the school, playing to her hearts content until a mergency occurs and she had to call 911—Very cute!

I think these books are junk - they may be funny but they also have terrible themes and morals and usually end with Junie being told she did something wrong - but is always forgiven so she never learns a lesson. Although they may be a good introduction book to children who are not big on reading.

This book is about a girl who stAys at school because she did not want chocolate milk pored on her head and she hates the yellow bus. The setting of the story is in a school room 9.and se hates the smell in the bus too. I don't know why it is called Junie B Jones and the stupid smelly bus because
Show More
it's not really about it being smelly. But I like the book anyway.

This book is about a kindergartener, Junie B. Jones. It is her first day of kindergarten, and she is terrified of the stupid smelly bus and all of the various bullies that ride the bus. When it’s time for her to go home, she doesn’t. She decides to hide in the classroom until everyone leaves.
She ends up falling asleep in the closet in the classroom. When she wakes up she has to go to the bathroom, but it ends up being locked. She runs into the janitor that lets her in. Her mother, and also most of the town, comes running when they found out she is there. She is finally taken home, and is finally convinced that the bus isn’t so bad after all.

I can really relate to this book because just like Junie B., I was always afraid of the bus. I had to take it to school every morning and every afternoon. To me it was the worst thing ever.

In the classroom, I can read it to the children to show them that the bus really isn’t all that bad. We can even make a list of ideas of things to do on the bus to make the ride go by faster.
