In this, the second book in the Emmy Dockery series, strong characterizations and a tantalizing scenario work together to continually ramp up the suspense. Emmy’s cat-and-mouse game with the killer will draw readers into the telling of the tale from the first page of this difficult-to-set-aside book. Several new characters add depth to the narrative and fit perfectly with the established characters. Unexpected plot twists keep the reader off-balance as they move the story in new directions and, as the unfolding story continues to challenge and entice readers, the surprising reveals will keep them on the edge of their seats until they’ve turned the final page.
Highly recommended.
The story starts off quicker than Invisible did and is riveting throughout, a really hard one to take a break from. I really enjoyed the way the killer used other people for camouflage, similar to how they did in Invisible, but taking things one step further.
From start to finish it is an enthralling story that builds on the ground work Invisible laid, yet improving on each aspect for the better, an excellent serial killer & police procedural novel.
I really do like the characters in this and I like that they are believable and realistic. When the main female character, Emmy, puts her mind to finding something or someone,
The killer uses a wheelchair to stake out his victims. He is very careful, mapping out routes without cameras. He flies under the radar for a long time. In addition to this murderer, someone is carrying out acts of violence on property to protest injustices.
You will be led to believe certain things in this book, and it will push you to think you know the answers, but you will be incorrect. The ending has a big surprise reveal that you likely would not see coming.
I liked the book a lot, but the ending wasn't the best.
