Excerpt from Soldiers of the Cross: Notes on the Ecclesiastical History of New-Mexico, Arizona and Colorado Without passing any judgment on the Opinions, either of fethnologists or of some serious students of the sacred books, as to the origin of the American Indians, we simply follow the text of the book of Genesis, and hold that the deluge destroyed all men, Noah and the members of his family excepted; and also all kinds of living animals, save those which, by order of God, had been enclosed in the ark no matter whether the flood was universal or only partial in regard to the earth. In other words, we admit the universality of the deluge, at least, as far as required by the purpose God had in View, viz. The destruction of all animated creation. He said: I will destroy man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth, from man even to beasts, from the creeping things even to the fowls of the air (gen. Vi, As a consequence, we believe that all men now living on the surface of the earth, have come from Noah and his descendants.
