cave? The idea was not the only fun thing in this book. The illustrations help make the story playful but caring, and is so right where it needs to be with expression. It’s a simple masterwork that will be read. to read over and over, and over again. Show Less

The little creature in the cave refuses to come out to play, no matter how many times the wolf invites him. Every game suggested is met with refusal, and so the seasons pass. Eventually though, hunger takes its toll, and when the wolf offers a tasty doughnut, the creature relents. Unfortunately for a bear! ) turns out to be something of a surprise...
The Cave was British author/illustrator Rob Hodgson's debut picture-book, and is an entertaining addition to the form. Although adult readers (and perhaps some children as well) will guess where the narrative is leading, it is still quite fun to see the wolf and his elusive quarry get there. The artwork, done in mixed media and enhanced digitally, is colorful and cute, capturing the humor of the tale. Recommended to readers looking for fun new picture-books with a sense of humor.
