America. We watch rooting for them as they struggle to survive in a country that does not value women or their rights. The thing that really struck me in the book was the maturity shown by Betty's young daughter Mahtob in the face of such dangers.

The most amazing and inspirational book I've ever read. You feel like you are literally with Betty and her daughter in Iran and feel her despair, frustration and joy as she plots to escape her abusive husband. You won't be able to put it down

In her book, Betty Mahmoody, tells the true story of how she went to Iran with her husband and 5-year-old daughter for a two week vacation but rather than returning home to the United States is kept prisoner in Iran.

Betty details the oppressive life in Iran and her efforts to escape the country

aided by people she met who wanted to help.

This book gave me a very good idea of what it is for a woman to live in Iran including the subservience to men, the oppressive clothing (the chador) and even special police that drive around to ensure that women are properly covered.

This book reads like a novel but is more amazing because it is a true story.

A fast paced book based on a true story.

Interesting read, but gives a pretty much American-biased view on the Iranian society. Of course, it's a story which happened almost 20 years ago, and the author went through a terrible time (it's a true story) which might explain it somehow.

Very catchy story however.
