Olga and the Smelly Thing From Nowhere by Elise Gravel - English and published by HarperCollins Canada is laugh out loud hilarious! I could not put it down and kept chuckling all of the way through.
A graphic middle grade novel that will totally appeal to all of your middle graders. Olga is a smart
Elise Gravel doesn't shy away from sarcasm, potty humour, and general ridiculousness which makes this graphic novel such a riot. I left it out for The Bear to explore and caught him reading with a huge smile on his face and in fits of laughter. If you need your youngster to get reading, just leave this one lying around. They will be hooked from the cover right on through to the end. The book has a number one on the spine so I sincerely hope that Olga will have her own series. It will be one that will line our book shelves for sure!

Olga is a girl who loves, I mean LOVES animals. People, not so much. When she discovers a weird creature that no one has ever seen before, she becomes absolutely fascinated by it. Naming the creature “meh,” Olga decides to use scientific observation to learn and deduce everything she can about
What I liked: amazing illustrations! The pictures are cute and silly and add so much character to the story. Olga also grows as a person as the story progresses. Even her relationship with the neighbors she didn’t like evolves throughout the book. I also like that it shows the scientific method.
What I didn’t like: the story may be cute and silly, but it did feel a bit long. I know the illustrations take up a lot of room, but I felt the story could’ve been a little tighter.
All-in-all, a cute read.
