James Patterson is a prolific author who often collaborates with co-authors. I must admit, I have fallen behind in keeping up with his releases. But, I knew I wanted to listen to the newly released Run, Rose, Run. Why? Because Dolly Parton is the co-author - and I love Dolly Parton!

AnnieLee Keyes
Show More
is determined to make it in the country music biz, so she heads to Nashville. A series of events leads her path to cross with that of the legendary Ruthanna Ryder. The book follows a fairly predictable path from there. AnnieLee has secrets in her past, there's a maybe yes, maybe no romance and a wise mentor. The story is good and kept me listening (I really wanted to know what AnnieLee's secret was!) But I have to say that what I really enjoyed the most was the music making scenes, the band, the lyrics created and the behind the scenes look that Dolly Parton brought to the book. Ruthanna has more than a passing resemblance to Parton, kind, big-hearted, talented, a philanthropist and more. And she likes 'sparkly' too. ;0)

I choose to listen to Run, Rose, Run. Why? Because Dolly Parton herself reads the Ruthanna character. That drawl, that giggle, the Dollyisms and more made it so easy to build a great mental image of Ruthanna.. And it's great to hear an author speak their own prose. Country star Kelsea Ballerini read the role of AnnieLee. Again, perfect casting. She's got a great drawl as well, and a voice with lots of movement, sass and laughter. I'm not sure who played the romantic interest Ethan, but he has a wonderflly low tone to his voice that just draws you in. The speed was right, everyone spoke clearly and the voices used captured the tone of the book.

As well, Dolly Parton is releasing an album also called Run, Rose, Run featuring the lyrics written in the book.

I have always liked Dolly Parton so I was intrigued to read this (as I see others have mentioned, I, too, am not a Patterson fan). I have also never been a country music fan. The story moved right along with "Rose" doing some rather incredible (impossible?) things over time...but fine, good novel
Show More
stuff. It's a fast read---but not quite a page turner.

Who can resist a novel co-authored by Dolly Parton? Not me! I even bought the hardback edition. The storyline is equal parts Nashville, Hallmark movie and airport action thriller with more than a few clichés thrown in, but also fast-paced, fun to read and, Dolly being Dolly, there's also a bonus
Show More
soundtrack (which I listened to while reading).

Troubled young singer-songwriter AnnieLee Keyes turns up in Nashville, determined to find fame and fortune while running from her dark past. She is discovered by retired country music queen Ruthanna Ryder - guess who! - and finds herself on the fast track to stardom but amongst her many new fans, including guitarist Ethan Blake, someone wants to drag AnnieLee back down to her roots. AnnieLee gets her happy ever after, of course, but 'that's what a good country song is: a story about real things and real people and real emotions, set to a really good tune'!

I'm not sure how the writing process between Dolly and James Patterson worked but her lyrics and insiders view of the Nashville music machine and his adrenaline-filled action scenes make a great partnership!

I thought I could read it since I just could not listen to it. That didn't happen. I was raised in the country, but there's only so many twangy cliches I can handle per chapter.

Impressively cliched. It feels like a paint-by-numbers exercise.

> Ethan knew that he should call the police. But he also knew that doing so would most likely backfire. AnnieLee would be furious, and she would push against everyone, dodge any questions, refuse to cooperate. And how could the police
Show More
investigate a crime that its victim said never even happened?

Run, Rose, Run was a highly anticipated book as I waited on a library hold list for over a month. What a terrible disappointment and quickly returned the boring novel back to the library. James Patterson writes superb mysteries that provide a reader with suspense, romance, and page-turning
Show More
intrigue. Run, Rose, Run opens with a prologue in which the main character, AnnieLee Keyes, jumps over a hotel banister. Will she plummet to her death, or will a miracle occur? So that should have provided a compelling story, but the story never ascends from the ashes like a phoenix. An aging music diva, Ruthanna Ryder, takes AnnieLee under her wing, but everything follows a trite formula. AnnieLee runs from her past, but this past is not mentioned soon enough. A handsome hunk, Ethan Blake, discovers AnnieLee, but his story remains hidden. Knowing that AnnieLee’s name is really Rose and that she runs from her drunken step-father does not redeem the story. A big waste of time.

AnnieLee Keyes is determined to hit it big in Nashville singing her own songs. She is trying to escape a life, and is doing her best to hide her past from those she meets. AnnieLee talks her way onto a stage in a Nashville bar, and she wows the audience. Luckily, for her, one of the patrons, Ethan
Show More
Blake, is a studio musician for a famous retired country star, Ruthanna Ryder. (On the audiobook, Ruthanna is voiced by Dolly Parton). Ethan tells Ruthanna about AnnieLee, and Ruthanna reluctantly goes to listen to her. Of course, Ruthanna takes AnnieLee under her wing and helps to launch her career. But, her past is catching up with her, and AnnieLee is in danger from a nasty man.
This is a predictable story, but it is nice to read a novel co-written by Dolly Parton. I listened to the book, as well as read the hardcover, and I would have liked to hear the songs sung by AnnieLee and the others. They are available on YouTube and a Dolly album.

First I must make it clear that, even though I am no country music lover, I do love Dolly Parton and what she stands for, and I like her singing. Her genuineness and kindness are both very prevalent in this book. And as we all know, she does know the country music scene like no other. I love this
Show More
book because of Dolly and the characters that she has envisioned in her story. My only complaint, and it's really not a huge complaint, is that I wish she would have chosen someone else to co-write with. I have never been a James Patterson fan. His books are so formulaic and seem to be all so much the same. (I think you'd call them slick). I wish Dolly would have worked with someone who can write characters that are real and not like plastic dolls. I found the characters and the plot in this book a bit over-the-top, and I never really believed in any of the characters much except for Ruthanna Ryder whom I loved. I should mention that I listened to this book on audiobook, and it was a pretty slick production! Dolly herself plays the part of Ruthanna and she does a masterful job of it as with everything she tries. The other characters in the book were well-played as well. I really liked the first half of the book, but the second half wasn't nearly as good. There are no surprises here. It's a well-known plot premise, but the warmth and the genuineness of Ms. Dolly make the book a worthwhile book to read. With all the different characters it seemed very much like listening to a radio play. The insider look at the Nashville movie scene is also worthwhile. After all, who knows that scene better than Dolly?

I didn’t expect to like RUN ROSE RUN, but I read it out of curiosity, and I did, in fact, like it. It didn’t blow me away or anything, but I liked it.

This book has three main characters: AnnieLee, a young 20-something woman who comes to Nashville hoping to become a country-music sensation;
Ethan, the guitar player who becomes her bodyguard; and Ruthanna, the queen of country music, now retired. Each of them is hiding secrets, AnnieLee most of all.

It’s a pretty simple, easy read with lots of dialogue. There is nothing smutty here, no bad language, no graphic sex. All three main characters are likable.

My only criticism of the book is when AnnieLee falls from a fourth-floor hotel room. She does an awful lot of thinking on her way down. As someone who has skydived and had several thousands of feet to fall, I can assure you: it happens real fast!

I really enjoy Patterson books. And, I love Dolly Parton. This book, however, although I enjoyed it, was not what I expected. It is the story of a girl, running away from her past, who comes to Nashville to begin a new life as a country music singer. I am a country music fan, so I enjoyed all the
Show More
anecdotes and such. the story didn't move along as quickly as Patterson' s other books. It was good and I'm glad Iread it.

Run Rose Run is a book about a young woman who wants to be discovered as a country singer in Nashville. She is fleeing a very dangerous lifestyle which she does not want to talk about. The book keeps its pace throughout. It is a good average story thus only three stars were awarded in this review.

As a book about a struggling musician trying to make it in the music industry, this Patterson/Parton collaboration is just okay. As a thriller, it fails miserably. Admittedly, this book is not my preferred genre. But even with a generous critique, I can’t muster more than 2 1/2 stars. I didn’t
Show More
get into the storyline and I found a few of themain characters to be more like cardboard cut-outs than credible people. A big-time disappointment.

I thought that this was rather entertaining. A long time ago, I used to read a lot of James Patterson’s books. I noticed that at some point I just wasn’t enjoying his work anymore and made a conscious decision to focus my energy on reading books written by other authors. I was never really
Show More
tempted to give his work another try until I saw that he wrote a book with Dolly Parton. I am so glad that I decided to pick this book up.

I listened to the audiobook which was narrated by a wonderful cast of narrators including Dolly Parton, Kelsea Ballerini, James Fouhey, Kevin T. Collins, Peter Ganim, Luis Moreno, Soneela Nankani, Ronald Peet, Robert Petkoff, Ella Turenne, and Emily Woo Zeller. I am not going to lie. Dolly Parton’s name caught my attention but the fact that this book was narrated by a full cast sealed the deal. I thought that all of the narrators did a wonderful job with the story and their voices worked well together. I am certain that the narration added a lot to my overall enjoyment.

This is AnnieLee Keyes’s story. She goes to Nashville hoping to make her dreams of making it big a reality while escaping her past. She gets a bit of help when she catches the attention of a semi-retired superstar who knows the ropes that AnnieLee will need to have a successful career. It is obvious that AnnieLee is running from someone but her past is a mystery for the bulk of the book. AnnieLee spends a lot of time with Ethan and they become closer as the book progresses. I was happy to see just a bit of romance worked into the story.

I would recommend this book to others. I had fun with the story and thought that the audio added a lot to the story. I would definitely recommend grabbing the audio if you decide to give this book a try. This was the light entertaining read that I had hoped it would be.

I received a review copy of this audiobook from Hachette Audio.

Long and drawn out novel of our poor abused country singer AnnieLee Keyes escaping to Nashville to be discovered. Along the way there are several mishaps with men but she has spunk despite her small size. She is quickly taken under the wing of a famous but retired female country singer but there is
Show More
always fear and caution in AnnieLee that she refuses to share with anyone. The last 5th of the book reveals all - not a surprise ending but reaffirms that girls will keep secrets about creepy men that they should have shared with authorities long before.

AnnieLee has come to Nashville to make it as a country singers just like so many others before her. She struggles at first but she has the voice of an angel and can write memorable songs easy as falling off a log. Soon, with the help of Ethan, a talented musician in his own right and Ruthanna, a
Show More
retired superstar who takes Annie under wing, she is on the road to stardom. But just as her star rises, her past is catching up with her. And once again, AnnieLee is forced to go on the run not just to save her dreams but her life.

When I saw Run Rose Run by James Patterson and Dolly Parton on Netgalley, I was curious to see what this collaboration would produce. Turns out it made for a fast, easy read, less thriller, more the difficulties of breaking into the music biz at least until the last 20% of the story when things pick up quickly. The ending itself was not particularly surprising but it seemed right. Overall, an enjoyable if not particularly suspenseful read.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review

This is a poorly disguised ad for Parton's newest album. The story is unbelievable on many levels, and it lasted much longer than it should have.

Surprisingly well-written but silly and obvious.

We listened to this book. I am glad because I can't imagine how disappointing it would have been to read it. The music business part of the story was okay but the mystery part was terrible.

Annie Lee loved country music, Nashville and singing. Despite her past, which she was running from and never talked about, she was determined to get to Nashville and sing. She met people who helped her, but her past was always with her.
