Description

Simple text and illustrations look at the life of inventor Nikola Tesla. "Born during a lighting storm, Nikola was called a child of light by his mother. He felt electricity after stroking his cat and was fascinated! With his brilliant mind, Nikola imagined inventions in his head and brought them to life. After studying electricity, he invented technology that could harness the power of alternating current, which today powers many things in our world." -- Back cover.

Little People, BIG DREAMS. One of a series for adults to read with children and for ESL to polish their English and learn about people who have shaped their world.
A skinny son of a farming family in Croatia had an imagination for things way ahead of his time. Electricity was the thing he loved most

and learned how to share it with everyone and even had ideas not developed until long after he stopped working on them.
The illustrations by Alexander Mostov are mostly simple, colorful, and forthright. Every public and school library needs a copy!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Quarto Publishing Group/Frances Lincoln Children's Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

The thing with the Little People Big World books is that they are too happy. They make every person sound like they lived happily ever after. And that is just not so with Tesla. It briefly mentioned that he and Thomas Edison didn’t get along, but nothing about Edison stealing his work, or that

Tesla died early and pretty poor. He was remembered as a quack and a crazy, instead of the brilliant mind he was. I wish this book had touched on this just a little. Not all people have a happily ever after and this series needs to stop trying to make it seem like they do.
