Media reviews

BETRAYAL is a compelling read, in which the tension is almost unbearable. The author's psychological insight is sharp: we identify with each character while we see the world through their eyes, but when the author pulls back and shows a more objective view, we realise things are definitely not as

they had seemed. Each player in this grim story is locked into their own particular emotional straitjacket, all of which are cleverly, and with almost unbearable tension, built up into a perfect house of cards. It's all going to come tumbling down, but for who, and how? The final chapters are horrifically chilling - but in common with the very best of Scandinavian crime fiction, no car chases, fancy technology, thrills or spills are necessary for the gut-wrenching impact. This novel is psychological suspense at its finest.

I give this book two stars because it is wonderfully written. I can't give it any more than two because it is phenomenally depressing. Iguess it's a morality tale, but otherwise I don't know why anyone would want to read this book.

Betrayal is a chilling story of obsession and deception in a Ruth Rendell style. I thought it was fabulous and the ending pure horror. A young woman, Eva, is married with one child and a successful career. She discovers that her husband is having an affair with their child's day care teacher and

plots a revenge that soon spirals out of control.
Highly recommended.

Loved the coldness of this novel, the setting, the actions of the characters, and their speech and mannerisms. This is nordic psychological suspense that is, in my opinion, done extremely well. Definitely reminds me of the novels of Sophie Hannah and Patricia Highsmith. From reading the jacket, I

had a preconceived notion on what was going to happen in this book, and it didn't follow my script at all, which is probably a good thing. I have read two of hers now, I think 4 have been published in the states. Will now try to see if I can get the other two.

Originally published in UK in 2005. Great murder mystery. Book opens with the break-up of Eva and Henrik's marriage. She meets Jonas, mentally disturbed, in a bar. It turns out that Jonas killed his previous girlfriend and eventually kills Eva too.

This was much better than her previous book Missing, though I have to agree with other readers I wasn't too thrilled with the ending. I'm not sure how I wanted it to end, but it wasn't the way it did. The story was one of, you guessed it, betrayal. Two stories of betrayal to be clear. Jonas and Eva

are betrayed and then their paths cross as does their betrayal and there the story really takes place.
