One of the two best books on teaching I've read. A MUST have for new teachers, and wouldn't hurt experienced teachers either.

This book is a must read for beginning teachers. How you start, is how you will finish, management is the KEY to sucess

What a disappointment this book was! Fully one half of the book is devoted to metaphores of good teaching. The target readers are teachers - We get it! The other half of the book tells us the general differences between great teachers and horribly incompetent teachers. We get that, too! What's

lacking in this book are realistic scenarios with detailed suggestions for making the best of them. This book was recommended by a colleague and I was looking forward to some insights on making my classroom better. All I got were platitudes.

This small book changed the way I viewed teaching and how I structured my classroom. I think every student teacher should receive this book! The practicality of this book is priceless!

If a teacher ever needed a refresher seminar, this book is it. It is the reference. Fred Jones has a similar book, and it too is a great reference tool. However, somehow Wong's book gets my first vote each time. You don't have to read it straight through. You can skip around and still not miss a

beat of what you need to brush up on or need to be reminded of to get the classroom managed better and have the rhythems of learning take place flowingly. Whenever you think you are losing control in the classroom, just access this book and you will find your missing component. Sometimes the adjustment is very minute. And that is all it takes, the minute adjust to get your control back on track so that you are doing more than just crowd control. YOu can actually teach, the kids start to learn because they have been encased by the expectations of learning. ZMaleki

This book will always hold a sentimental place in my heart...but the information contained within is quintessential. New teachers should always, always read this book--and, of course, while I own this copy, I would highly suggest the purchase of the updated edition.

This is a great book for those who are going into the teaching profession, as well as those who are currently teaching. This book provides ways to increase classroom behavior, and minimizing misbehavior. This allows increasedtime for learning. The book also teaches how to improve teaching. There

I received a copy of this book when I first started teaching but didn't get around to reading it until the next summer and I was so glad I did! This book is great for new teachers!

Recommended by several friends and my mother, I'm finding this book a very succinct and quick guide to really simple and easy success tools. Me gusta!

I really recommend reading this before, BEFORE, you teach anything (including adults).

Every few years I like to re-read this book. It really renews my passion for teaching. It's a great reminder of why I use certain practices as well as reminds me of practices I may have forgotten. I received this book as a graduation present from college for my first year of teaching, but twelve

years later I still find it practical and useful. I especially appreciated the epilogue and love its comment that our children are becoming an endangered species". Unfortunately that is so true. I do think it might be time to get an updated edition though. It is a few years old."

When I taught in Utah, this was required reading before the 1st day. I remember certain parts of it giving me focus and direction. After a really rough 1st year back after grad school, I pulled this out again and re-read it. Much of it is second nature to me at this point--which is great--but there

If you ever know anyone who is going to be a teacher, this is a perfect, perfect gift.

Eh. While Wong makes a lot of lucid points about what it takes to be a successful teacher, I found his self-aggrandizing writing style and veiled condescension grating. He reiterates the importance of professionalism as a teacher, but then writes a book whose layout looks like it was designed for

five year olds. Teachers aren't idiots, Harry. You can write a book that isn't larded with cliches and ridiculous clip art, and people will read it.
