This book would be a great resource in teaching many different concepts. I would use it with kindergarten or first grade students. It follows the story of a girl named Stella who is concerned when her teacher announces a Mother's Day party and Stella is raised by two fathers. Her behavior at first

is sad and progressively gets better over time as she comes up with a solution to bring her entire family that cares for her to the class party. This book is great to use for a shared reading and then to teach the concepts of problem, behavior changing over time and also can be used to make predictions/inferences. Predictions/inferences can be taught because at the end of the book Howie, Stella's classmate, has two moms and is seen wondering about what he is going to do for the Father's Day party. Students would be able to make predictions or inferences based on this illustration in the book and what they read.

children missing “traditional” family members. This book gives a great idea of what a child stuck in this situation could do.
