Description

Fantasy. Thriller. Young Adult Fiction. LGBTQIA+ (Fiction.) HTML:A dark, twisty thriller about a centuries-old, ivy-covered boarding school haunted by its history of witchcraft and two girls dangerously close to digging up the past. The dangerous romance and atmospheric setting makes it a perfect read for fans of dark academia. Felicity Morrow is back at the Dalloway School. Perched in the Catskill Mountains, the centuries-old, ivy-covered campus was home until the tragic death of her girlfriend. Now, after a year away, she's returned to finish high school. She even has her old room in Godwin House, the exclusive dormitory rumored to be haunted by the spirits of five Dalloway students??girls some say were witches. The Dalloway Five all died mysteriously, one after another, right on Godwin grounds.    Witchcraft is woven into Dalloway's past. The school doesn't talk about it, but the students do. In secret rooms and shadowy corners, girls convene. And before her girlfriend died, Felicity was drawn to the dark. She's determined to leave that behind now, but it's hard when Dalloway's occult history is everywhere. And when the new girl won't let her forget.    It's Ellis Haley's first year at Dalloway, and she has already amassed a loyal following. A prodigy novelist at seventeen, Ellis is a so-called method writer. She's eccentric and brilliant, and Felicity can't shake the pull she feels to her. So when Ellis asks Felicity to help her research the Dalloway Five for her second book, Felicity can't say no. Given her history with the arcane, Felicity is the perfect resource.    And when history begins to repeat itself, Felicity will have to face the darkness in Dalloway??and herself.  &… (more)

Huh. Well, that was a bit lackluster.

I had high hopes going into this book, but it never really lived up to them. It's terribly predictable, there weren't any big twists or 'wow' moments for me. The characters are pretty unlikable and a few of them felt thrown in the story just because the author

wanted more diversity.

I felt like the start of the book had great bones, but it just tapered off as I got closer and closer to the end...and then, it just ended. Overall it's a haunting story wrapped up in a bit of mystery and darkness. It's a good read if you aren't expecting too much out of the plot.

Thank you Delacorte Press via NetGalley for the e-ARC to read and honestly review.

Unfortunately predicatable in plot. Interesting that though the entire book is written from Felicity's point of view, I never felt like I knew who she was, not really. Even at the end, she just seemed to be a blank face with tropes draped over her. Many of the other characters came alive, but when

your main character is so hollow, that's difficult.

That being said, I did enjoy the read. Of course the atmosphere is wonderful. I just wished there was something a little more solid to hold on to.

Dark academia, no plot, just vibes, at least for the first 84% of the novel. It actually gets really interesting at the end and almost, but not quite turns into a thriller. My overall feeling about this book is too little, too late.
