But, whatever you do, don't feed them spicy salsa! The spicy salsa thing is actually what makes me hesitant to say that this is a truly great children's picture book. Because, you see, dragons "hate" spicy salsa. It creates a cute lead-in to the ending, but I'm left wondering why we have to introduce the world "hate" into a child's vocabulary. Couldn't the writers have found a better way to explain it? Am I being too uptight? After all, it's not as if children memorize books and repeat things they learn from them.

Oh wait.

All in all, this was a completely adorable book with completely adorable illustrations. Great for dragon enthusiasts and taco lovers alike.

The setting is imaginative; the house of a little boy is the location for this crazy dragon party, though the house inevitably gets burned down because the boy makes the tacos too spicy, which makes the dragons spurt flames. place, this one seemed poorly written. The sentences were all short and choppy and didn't seem to flow well. There was a lot of redundancy and repetition that didn't seem to serve a literary purpose. For example, one page read "The only thing dragons love more than parties or tacos, is taco parties (taco parties are parties with tacos.)"

Although the illustrations were well done and adequately described the plot of the story, there wasn't much of a plot of the story to begin with. Essentially, the book was about the fact that dragons loved tacos and parties, but hate spicy salsa. This is the only main idea I could muster from the story. I was disappointed in the writing of this book overall, and can only hope that others enjoyed it more than I did.

them, the boy did not dispose of all the spicy salsa like he originally thought. Instead, the dragons wolf down the tacos topped with the offending salsa, and from then on, the party turns a bit upside down.

The entertaining story of what happens when dragons consume spicy salsa will likely draw a few giggles even from the most reluctant readers, as well as charm the most voracious reader. The bright, bold colors of the watercolor/color pencil illustrations perfectly complement the playful and lively tone, and the depictions of the dragons wearing pirate hats and bikinis (they like costume and pool parties, too), and being just plain theatrical (did you know dragons are just a tad dramatic?) just add to the enjoyment.

Although the narrative may be a bit long for young readers, they’ll still be amused looking at the humorous pictures, which give an excellent opportunity for counting and color recognition (how many green dragons are there?; how many dragons are wearing clothes?). However, it’s the text that makes this book laugh-out-loud, and for persistent readers, reading about what happens to a dragon in salsa trouble will be extremely rewarding. Highly recommended. Grades pre-K to 1.

Argument: I thought this book was a really cute story with humor about tacos. There isn't really a main message that I took out of this book, I think it is just meant to be entertaining for children. I think kids would really like the part where the dragons end up eating the spicy salsa and breathing fire. One of my favorite things about this book was the illustrations. The writing was also really strong but the pictures really added to the text. A few pages also didn't have words, just illustrations of what the dragons ended up doing.
